We were when Tom was here. The few times he canned guys he tried to work with them for a couple of years before he gave up on them.
that's the first time i've heard that one. so we were a training program for coaches under to. any examples?
Bob and Tom hired high school coaches to coach positions at times. Hell he hired Frank as his freshman coach and moved him up the chain.
Then Frank was fired. Then Mark was hired and fired. What in the Wide World of damn Sports does any of that mean with Nebraska Football & B1N in 2023? Matt Rhule has a WR and LB Coach that have no P5 coaching experience before.
Nebraska has moved on from the Osborne/Solich/Pellini teat. Spit that nipple out it is only memory. The rest of us are pushing on for a re-match against Michigan.

stop twisting. how many position coaches did he hire to train them for 4-5 years before they earned their place as a position coach. i know he shuffled guys with previous experience out that he didn't think were up to standards. this is really dumb, good bye.
Milt Tenopir was another hired by Tom out of the HS ranks. He didn’t start out with the OL.
Guy Ingels played under Devaney in 1970 & then joined Tom’s staff as WR coach in 1972.

Linebacker play has been solid. WR coach can't predict a starter quitting or Washington getting hurt. WR coach isn't responsible for experience gap between Kemp and Coleman. He wasn't here when that gap happened. Look, I'm keeping an open mind on all the staff but I'm going to be rational about it.
So you want to double down on making the same mistake? It should never take more than a couple of years to show you're worth a shit as an assistant coach.
Am I wrong, but is the only WR with legit game experience still available Kemp? Fleeks, but he seems on loan to the RB room. For all we know, McGuire is actually being effective getting these younger kids ready to play.
Milt Tenopir I believe was hired from a western Nebraska high school. Zero college coaching experience.
Look, I understand the difference between Raiola’s resume and OU’s O line coach’s resume. It’s huge. Bedenbaugh was Stoop’s O line coach and has stayed there. Raiola wouldn’t have been my first choice when Frost made his hire. I’m not sure given the situation with Frost’s hot seat that there were other better options willing to come in for what looked like a one year gig. I was hoping for Garrison.
That said, he’s here, his O line got better as the year went on last year and I expect the same this year. I’m not an expert on grading an O line coach but our head coach is. I’ll let him make decisions about Raiola. Raiola’s tenure is probably going to be determined by the development of the freshmen and guys he has committed to this class.

How do you know it’s a mistake? He's had one and a half seasons with someone else's recruits, except Scott.
Dan Young was a high school coach to I believe as well as cletus Fischer. Milt, cletus and Dan had NU best linemen.....all high school coaches
continue to twist and shape the subject. milt coached in 3 high schools over 8 years. an actual coach in charge i might add.
where did you randomly come up with the ou oline coach at? it makes no sense.
I was making a comparison to top 10 program. Another would be Michigan’s O line coach who also has the OC title. I was giving credit to your assertion that maybe Raiola was under qualified by today’s P5 standards.
So he was a HS coach. Isn't that what @dinglefritz said?
Hiring Raiola, who’d neither recruited nor had sole responsibility for his position group for a single day in his entire life
He is in way over his head & will not be shouldering even close to his current responsibilities after he’s finally relieved here
Every assistant has to work with someone else's recruits when they start. It's part of the job. They're still your players, and you have to coach them up.

It shouldn't take much game experience to not run garbage routes that have you constantly getting yourself impeded by the defense or the other receivers. Yet I'm still seeing this exact thing happen and no receivers getting open on a play.
But Dan Young had extensive recruiting experience. He coached at Westside.
Seems to be doing OK with what he has there to work with.
Rhule seems plenty capable of picking good assistant coaches.
If he coached at Westside now, he’d have EXTENSIVE recruiting experience.
That program is starting to make Bellevue West coaches look like Kirk Ferentz.
right. it's not that hard to figure out to begin with. then after 18 games it's in stone.
nfl/p5>fbs>fcs/jr college>high school>jr high>pee wee
the more successful years of coaching at each level may push a coach's abilities/potential up the ladder
exceptions can happen in anything but not the rhule.

Regardless of how anybody feels about Raiola, he’s here and he’s staying here until Rhule says otherwise. He now has 9 months under his belt coaching the way Rhule wants his line coached. He’s got 20+ months developing relationships with recruits. He’s been getting our foot in the door of linemen in places we haven’t seen since Frank was canned. IMO that will pay off in the long run.
Again, just my opinion, but I would like to see what he can do with his freshmen class. We’re short handed at LT but the rest of the O linemen have made strides.
he didn't earn his position when he came here and he hasn't earned it since.
