the false starts, the personal fouls

it’s one thing for your position group to be a laughing stock, it’s another to do so while also being so undisciplined you can’t string together 6 plays without committing a penalty

we all know why he was retained. that ship has sailed. time to hire someone who knows what the F he’s doing up front

At this point I'm beginning to jump on the bandwagon of "Raiola hot seat" crowd.

There are certain things you analyze on film and say "we need better talent, better S&C development", but the mental mistakes....come on

The false starts....always coming at the worst possible times btw. Is there not a ****ing drill you can work on with your O-Line group to ensure they never false start?

Michigan had 0 false starts against us....not sure how many they will have all year or what an average O-Line should expect here....

Easy Kong, firing him now won’t likely make this unit any better. Probably just disrupt any team chemistry/cohesiveness we might have. It’s not ideal, but we’re not fixing this thing mid-season. We could, possibly, make it worse with rash decisions.

Mother****er should look on YouTube or something for drills to instill not false starting with your tackles...ffs, apparently we don't do those drills

There might be some misguided notion that his nephew is gonna pull a Quinn Ewers on Georgia

It literally cannot make it worse

I’m with you, 3 of the 5 guys on the offensive line who started last week also started against Michigan in 2021. Yes these guys lack some talent and athleticism, but I just don’t see Raiola making them much better either

Rhule said the defense was barking out shit that made them jump, he was on the officials about it but nothing was done.
They definitely drew us off on multiple shifts

Could’ve been accompanied by mock cadences (a penalty), but still can’t fall for that stuff repeatedly

It actually would with the O-Line recruits in the mix or committed.

We need Brix, and Rhule should fly out to see him over this 2 week by break. Sounds like Rhule is the pull for Brix, not Raoila, but you still wait until after next season.

If we pull in a legit QB for next year, he will get by well without a top O-Line.

Chinander was fired mid season last year and our defense was instantly better from that point forward.

We probably can’t keep him long enough to find out. I mean, maybe if Dylan wants to transfer after his freshman season…🤷‍♂️ I suppose, under those fantasy land circumstances, you keep him. But let’s be realistic, that’s not gonna happen. Another thing that’s probably not gonna happen is Rhule firing him after this season. He’s gonna get one more year I’d think, to show improvement.

After that, he better hope his nephew wants to transfer…

That’s a coordinator, not a position coach. Coordinators change schematics, position coaches teach skills, techniques, discipline and recruit. And it’s not gonna happen anyway so it’s pointless to debate it. I’ll bet you a million dollars you don’t have that he won’t be fired mid-season.

I didn't claim he would be fired mid season. You are the one claiming it would would be a bad idea to fire Raiola mid season and I provided a counter example of when firing an assistant mid season can actually be beneficial. Didn't claim that he will be fired, simply claiming that it might help our cause if he was.

Well, I didn’t bring up the “mid-season” firing argument, kong did, I just disputed it. Secondly, you can create an argument that firing a coach mid-season can help, sometimes. But in this situation, I find it highly unlikely it would. And every coaching situation (hiring and/or firing) is unique and subject to the circumstances that surround it. Just cause you can find a situation where firing a coach mid-season may have helped, it really has nothing to do with this situation.

Plus, it’s not happening no matter how much y’all want it to, so I don’t get your passion for the notion. I’m not gonna flip out cause I didn’t win the power ball or because I don’t get to bang Jessica Alba. Cause I never believed those things were gonna happen to begin with…

I get that but make an in-game adjustment. Now everyone is going to be using that against us until we clean it up.

Wait for the freakin’ snap of the ball
(I think I was taught that when I was 9 or 10) but that does explain some of that.

Exactly. He won't be fired until his nephew has signed with someone else.

The worst possible scenario would be for nephew Raiola to sign with Nebraska, because it would mean we'd be stuck with his OL coaching uncle the entire time he was here, for fear he would transfer away. Who knows, maybe he didn't choose Nebraska because of his uncle.

when to fire the underqualified coach is a simple matter. find a qualified coach that fits rhule's phylosophy and have him quasi hired the minute you hand cRayola his pink slip. take enough time to get the right guy and pay him.

It's ignorant to blame a coach for mental errors by the players. Maybe he should wipe their asses for them too. We don't have "great" linemen.
you have to be a "great" lineman to know the f'ing snap count?

7 presnap penalties + a personal foul

it's ignorant to think coaching (or lack thereof) has nothing to do with that

Raiola is a very suspect coach, hopefully after this season, Matt Rhule makes a change. If we want to have a better OL, we can't keep doing the same things and expect different results.

60 years of watching, playing, watching, watching, watching football have never before seen anywhere the number of redzone mental mistakes by the oline. cRayola was not qualified or experienced when he got here and somehow hasn't magically gotten any better duh.

Rhule and Satterfield have both coached the O line. There’s only so much a coach can do. Unfortunately it’s damned tough to bench the starters and replace them with true freshmen. You waste a year of eligibility and probably get their brains beat in.

We’re still dealing with Frost’s recruits. Our best backups are Raiola’s true freshmen and they’re not physically ready.

"brains beat in" really. how about a jouneyman qb trying to make up for the penalty yards created by mistakes in the red zone. no body in all of college football does this shit. cRalola is clearly swimming in it and has been since he got here. underqualified, underexperienced, and underachieving

Sorry. Not buying the Raiola hate.

I’m not making excuses for the O line’s stupid mistakes. Fidone false started too. Obviously the crap Illinois was pulling was very effective at getting different guys to jump. From what I’ve seen of the backup O linemen, they’ll get Haarberg killed. We need those freshmen to grow up fast cuz the rest of Austin’s and Frost’s O line recruits don’t look great.

it's not hate. the guy needs experience and coaching time to learn his craft. should have never been put in the job with the qualifications he had. was never fair to him in the first place.
He’s got TWO former O line coaches supervising his work. It isn’t rocket science. He’s plenty qualified for the job and other than Scott he’s having to play Austin’s recruits.

How was Raiola’s experience & qualifications worse than Bo Pelini’s when he was hired as our DC? Just curious.

His OLstruggled during the last regime, and it hasn't gotten any better for the current regime. The fact that the OL keeps making the same mistakes over and over is very telling.
@dinglefritz constantly repeats his own mistakes. never learns from them.

probably why he can relate so well with the nepotism retainee.
