Just out of curiosity, off the top of your head. 2 that spring to mind are Turner Gill at KU after 2 seasons and whoever got canned at Southern Miss after 1 season and zero wins. Other than that, I can't think of any under 2.

ahh heck.. this is already starting to circle the toilet bowl.. fire the bum

Jon Embree at Colorado (2 years)
Charlie Weis at KU (2 years and 4 games)
Rich Rod at Michigan (3 years)

Best we can hope for is that Riley does something that voids some conduct clause so we can get rid of him immediately. Other than that we are stuck with this Mr. Rogers looking joker for 4 yrs.

Well if things don't improve soon, I would give HCMR until next year, unless it gets so bad, that the AD must make a move......

It's not like he doesn't have players.......He has some solid players that 8-9 wins should have been easily accomplished........

I'm at a loss of words right now.

That's why I think a lot of folks are so frustrated. It seemed like simple things like simplifying the defensive assignments and better WR coaching and better play calling would've vastly improved this team, but this team has taken a huge step backwards and our losing record is all the proof anybody needs.

Didn't Illinois fire their coach right before the season started ? New coach is no excuse.

What's all this matter, as long as Eichorst is our AD Riley isn't going any where.

First we need to cut the head off the snake before we hire a new Head Coach and we don't want Eichorst choosing the next one.

NU is still paying BPs buyout. Multiple decapitations aren't in our near future. I still don't think it's warranted either.

Can't afford two multi-million dollar buyouts at the same time (oh and Eichorst would be a third)

Remember Pedey Pederson hiring Mike Haywood? He was named the Pitt coach, and canned two weeks later, without coaching a game. Haywood was charged with domestic abuse, if I remember correctly. That Pedey knew how to pick 'em.

George O'Leary fired from Notre Dame...I think he only made it about a week.

Maybe Riley--since he is a nice guy--will do the right thing and "retire" after this year.

That is because he lied about his resume.

Well if he only made it about a week...I think it goes without saying that it wasn't coaching related. The title of the thread was quickest recent firings in college football. Price was listed above and that was before he coached a game also...

Understandable, may be some out there that don't know why in the first place.

But you nailed it.

This talk of Riley stepping down or being fired is 100% crazy. It serves no purpose other than setting the program into a real spiral.

The season has not started as anyone had hoped, but this could also literally be a case of the worst possible luck of anyone running a football team. Sans Miami, this team was better than every other team they've played and literally finds a new way to lose a heart breaker each week.

I still believe Riley is the right man for the job and I'm confident he will straighten this out. All the naysayers who want him fired 5 games into his start will look back and wish the internet didn't save their heresy.

Not football, but Ben Lindsey had a great record at small college level and was hired by Univ of AZ. His first season was terrible and he was fired. Arizona hired Lute Olson away from Iowa. That decision worked out OK and then some. Obviously Riley won't be another Ben Lindsey deal but I could imagine a quick retirement if this continues down the toilet.

First thing this program needs to do is purge a bunch of whiney so called fans.....
I assume you are okay with watching the bad play calling and players with bad fundamentals. I guess you are also good with losses to bad teams. I don't think its time to fire MR yet but there are some major red flags especially when you consider this is supposed to be a veteran staff. I would expect you to be a little upset about these things if your a real fan.

I can be upset about it without calling for the staff to be fired. However I realize this was game 5. If this is an issue in year 5, then different story. I'm still seeing progress from last year as a whole based upon all 5 games. After the Iowa game last year I predicted we'd lose by 4 tds to BYU and Miami. I also would have never imagined at the time the type of visitors we will have on the sideline this Saturday. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Yeah I understand that. Its way to early to be calling for heads and I do see some progress. But the play calling and game management stuff was very alarming from a veteran staff. I would expect those things from a novice staff not from these guys.

What solid players? We have NO DBs, NO LBs, No offensive line, poor DEs, poor TEs, inexperienced RBs and a QB who is not a QB. A QB who has been coached up quite well this year. We have a couple DTs and a couple WRs. You need much more than that to be competitive.

Some would argue that 2-3 to start the season is a real spiral already. I would be shocked if this regime ever wins more than 8-9 games. Not trying to be a gloom and doomer, but I'm not seeing the coaching acumen that would propel this program to the top of any totum pole---even with better athletes. I could be wrong about that, but call me skeptical based on what I've seen so far. MR could take a step out of the hole he's digging this weekend with a big badger beatin'.

Boom.

That being said, let's get out there and show our support for the team. We have a huge recruiting weekend coming up. We need to get out there and show these guys what it is like to be a Husker on game day.
