* This was a pivotal game. We had momentum after dismantling Minnesota and got a home game against a Northwestern team that had been demolished its past two games. Win this game, with Purdue on deck, and we had a great chance to at least go to a bowl.

* Very little energy on both sides of the ball.

* Can't say that offensive play-calling was entirely to blame. They stuffed the run. Lowry was a beast.

* Not interested in the whole pendulum-swing bs between the various factions of this board. We may still come back and win some big games down the road. We may collapse. I'll assess at the end of the season. But right now there isn't much to be excited about.

Needed to get more points when we had them bottled up for 3 quarters - and not throw the stupidest pick 6 I can remember......holy **** Tommy

This was a turd in the punchbowl effort by all involved today. The OL had their ass kicked. The wideouts dropped 6 balls. Our pass defense was again shredded by a QB that can`t shred anyone else. Special teams kick coverage was awful. Penalties, did I say penalties? Coaching was not evident today at all. No emotion, it`s like the team has given up. LBer play was also weak.

I actually thought the pass defense was good. In fact, the defense as a whole was fine. The offense was bad. Really bad.

The offense was bad.

You think the pass defense was "good," and the overall defensive effort was "fine?"

Northwestern has a bad offense, man.

Also, this was all at home.

I didn't see the final stats, but near the end of the game the little display had him at like 48% completion and 161 yards on the day, with the 117 yards rushing in the first half.

161 yards passing is like 100% better than what we had been doing, and I think dominating TOP and under 200 yards passing we'd have believed it to be a Husker win going away.

There were several "almosts" that could have won us the game. JT laying out for a pass that was a half step in front of him. Reilly bringing in the TD on the corner route. Allen catching the ball before running the 40 yards to a TD. TA not trying to make a big play in a bad situation and tossing that pick 6 out of bounds.

We're losing to very average teams. People talk we lack talent? I'm sorry are we playing the likes of Adrian Peterson, and Marcus Mariotas? No, every team we played so far we are on par with talent wise. Maybe Miami has better speed but they are garbage. When you lose to teams that are equally talented or even less talented it boils down to one thing, coaching.

Central Coast Husker here Bay and I agree with you wholeheartedly.. I watched most of the first half then had to do some errands.. Had the game on pause but checked the net to see the score and saw we had scored after they had gone up on us to cut the lead to 2.. Watching the game was just frustrating.. what drove me nuts was that either on our 4th or 5th drive we had a 3rd and short and I wanna say maybe on their 40? Anyway I just thought it was a crucial drive but we pass yet again with nada to show for it.. No Janovich, no Cross.. no attempt to get creative or anything. At this stage Landorf simply relies too heavily on a not-so-good-passing qb.. I don't understand.. How many trick plays have we run this season? Hard to watch..

Don't panic ! only 3 more wins to bowl eligibility.

I know you are joking, but it's sad. We are not going to a bowl, and are going to get piss-stomped by both Michigan State and Iowa.

Riley and his staff better get busy, because if this crap happens next year, they are going to be gone in 2.

Northwestern was 115th in total offense and 117th in scoring offense coming into this game. Literally one of the worst offenses in college football. Iowa embarrassed them on their home field last week, without Drew Ott.

In short, poor coaching.

Anyone throwing a fit about our defense today should be ignored. Our defense was very good save a few plays. The offense made so many mistakes today I don't even know where to start. Northwestern sold out to stop the run, which they did, and we couldn't win the game with Tommy and WRs. That's the reality of this game.

The defense through 3 quarters was excellent. They still played well enough to win in the 4th. Problem was, we should have had 40 points on the board by the 4th quarter and we didn't. We left a ton of points on the field today.

This was a classic game of "we let them hang around too long". NWU probably doesn't make a 4th quarter run if its 35 - 14.

You take away the pic six which was truly a bonehead play and the six dropped passes and Nebraska probably wins easily.

yea northwestern was averaging 141 pass yards per game. they had 161 in the second half. not good.

Sounds like the past 10+ years of Nebraska football. Substitute opponent and qb in above bolded statement.

At what point do we drop the "what ifs" and look at the actual results? It seems like every year we are talking about if only this play didn't happen and wait until next year.

This Nebraska season could be full of what if's, but reality is we are failing from top to bottom.

Each time we scored the defense allowed a drive for them to score. Anyone who says this defense played good need quit posting. The offense they played against sucked. And we couldn't stop them.

Once again NW, like all the other teams figured we are the worse pass defense in the country, why run the ball?

Just admit the coaching staff sucks...instead of this arrogant foolishness of claiming we don't know what we are seeing. 3-5

Why didn't we go for the onside kick and give ourselves 2 chances to get the ball back. Then call a timeout so they can get a good 3rd down play. This coaching staff is a joke.

You take away a lot of stuff and we win easily against another mediocre opponent.

We did not lose today to an average team. "Average" is being generous.

Northwestern had as many drops as we did, maybe more. Probably made our pass D look better than it was. But I agree, the defense wasn't the problem today.

When will this team say enough is enough? This is a direct reflection on themselves.. How is what we're seeing acceptable?

As well they should.

Hard to believe...Taylor Martinez and Tommy Armstrong are going to be 4 year starters at Nebraska....just boggles the mind.

The first half defense was good but I have to question how much the poor Northwestern offense played in to that. Once they found a little room to exploit they did just that.

True. The offense is bad. Like this guys teeth. Seriously, I go into games and have no idea how we're gonna score points. I pray for pick-6's and kick returns for TD's. Today, one of my prayers was answered.
