Specifically, Callahan, Bo, and Riley.
How much of a role and influence do Boosters and Board of Regents have in our coaching hires? Does an AD act alone in the hiring process, or does he need buy-off from BOR and Boosters on how much allotted money can be spent on Salary ?
Some on here have alluded to a political power struggle and being limited to head coach options coaches because of money. To me, that shouldn't be an issue in our next hire with the full allotment of B1G money coming in, but I don't know all the internal dynamics. Are there people within these groups that have made it difficult for an AD to go out and get the coaches he wants ?
One can argue that Bo was a consensus popular choice at the time, and one could also argue that no coach wanted this job when Peterson fired Solich after he made a big turnaround and won 9 games, and we had to settle on Callahan as a 4th or 5th option, but is there more to it behind the scenes ? To me, if you're willing to throw money at a big fish, one of them is going to bite regardless of the situation.
All that said, I'm hoping money isn't an issue when we need to hire another coach due to because of money with some egomaniac booster or BOR members. I want NU to go out and get the best possible coach and open up the pocketbook and get a home run hire.
