Obviously Bo's qb recruiting was a huge factor in how thin we have been at the position going back to the TM era starting seven years ago. His most heralded recruit is a .180 hitter in the minor leagues who played Bo to get the big MLB bucks. But beyond that guy -- who would be graduated by now anyway -- it was mostly a case of too few recruits and recruits without college qb skills like Turner and Darlington. But the other huge problem was 2015 when we had no qb recruits. Of course that was the year Bo was canned in December and perhaps he had a hotshot committed who bolted when he was fired, but whatever the situation I think Riley really make a huge mistake by not taking a flyer on a third or fourth or fifth choice, just to provide emergency depth. And of course the same could be said of the decision not to take a senior transfer or juco this year, even if it wasn't a great player. To be fair, no one could have anticipated AJ Bush leaving and perhaps that's why Riley wasn't more aggressive in 2015 and 2016 recruiting.
During the next couple years we figure to have the opposite problem: three talented guys all wanting to be #1. Hopefully the reports about Gebbia wanting to redshirt are true because we need all three and hopefully will maintain at least two deep for the future. The past seven years were a bad joke. Starting two guys for three and a half years each without really any options. Get well, Tommy!
