it's going to take time for Mike Riley and Co. to get these players to "come correct" and quit hurting themselves with silly unforced mental errors that has plagued this team for several years under Pelini and Beck.

Example: that infamous 3rd down play late in the game that resulted in a incompletion and then stopped the clock. The play called was supposed to be a quarterback bootleg keeper but the blocking was messed up from the get go. Well, sometimes this will happen, people are only human but this is were I think the Tim Beck Bo Pelini mindset comes into play. Armstrong should have taken a sack and kept the clock running. Instead, Armstrong threw the ball thus stopping the clock. Tommy Jr. is a veteran qb. He should know better not to throw the ball but Armstrong still has too much of that 'Tim Beck hurry up go go go push envelope take a chance approach' and went ahead and threw the ball into a narrow window. Take the sack Tommy. Keep the clock running. Then on 4th down, and this is the coaches fault, NU runs another play that results in a incompletion that stops the clock again giving Illinois the ball back. Try the field goal or go ahead and punt and try and pin Illinois deep. Man, brutal sequence.

Alright. I'm done.

It's not the BP purging that is the problem. When the new coach/coaches screw up and cost you two games (clock management BYU/entire game management Illinois) you won't get many players to "buy into" the new coach. Unless you have a track record of greatness.

It all comes back to Shawn. Pay average dollars, get a coach with an average resume, what do you expect-something other than average coaching?

Oregon State had a bit of penalty problems under Riley, one of the higher in the Pac-12 from what I understand. And I think his coaching errors were talked about as well. Hope they can turn it around, and in a hurry, but I'm not counting on it.

I agree about the pay peanuts, ya get monkey's...but T/A is a seasoned player making rookie mistakes.
A team captain that should be booted off the squad. It's still a Pelini team with a new coach. There's plenty of stoooopid to go around.

Here's to a great HUSKER Saturday!

I don't believe Bo had anything to do with the losses especially yesterdays, point is we don't have AA running the ball this year. Secondly I am beginning to question just how much these players are buying into the new system, spring and fall camp should have taken care of that.

Agree with what you're saying. Several things I took away from the game. I think we were outcoached by Illinois' coaches. They seemed to realize it would be a hard day to pass and were crowding the LOS -putting pressure on Tommy and causing him to panic quite a bit. TA still doesn't look to his checkdowns, but instead looks 50 yds downfield. Westercamp had a tough day hanging onto the ball, as did Reilly. Our Oline is not giving TA much time, nor are they opening many holes. Newby is not our best back. Zig & Jano gave a lot of effort and are not afraid of contact. Two biggest disappointments were 1. time management in final minute (that alone cost us the game) 2. Gerry (our most experienced backer) allowing the receiver to get way behind him in the final seconds of the game. Should never happen. Two players I was real impressed with: Maurice & Weber played lights out! Kudos to them for keeping us in the game. Sad thing is - when watching this game with no emotions involved - they looked evenly matched (maybe a slight edge to Illinois), and that is frightening for me.

Yeah but T/A is still just a seasoned amateur. The seasoned professionals on the sidelines seem to be the ones who are screwing up more.

Let's hope they figure out how not to get embarrassed against Wisconsin-the cheesheads may not be good, but they gotta be better than Illinois.

Oh yes let's just throw money out there and that is going to solve it. Ok genius. Who is the guy? Who do we shell out all this money to? That's right you have no answer.

Do you? Did you think Mike Riley was the answer? Do you still? The problem is when you have geniuses like SP and SE firing 9 win coaches you better make it worth someone's while to come. Or you get a pro coach with a talent for losing his teams, and a 62 y/o average coach looking to pad his IRAs.

How many times are we going to prove that?

I would like to give a chance to guy similar to Florida's new coach. A hungry coach from a mid major team that is a proven winner.

I completely agree and I lost pretty much all confidence that I had in Riley on Saturday. Problem is I don't see a big name guy coming. I don't think a pro offense will ever work at Nebraska unless we want to become another Iowa and be average most years maybe a breakout every ten years or so I think we need to return to option football that is Nebraska. That is what makes Nebraska, nebraska. we built a system for a reason, we didn't need as many true skill guys for that offense, we could rely on hard working blue collar guys and fconcentrate on finding specialized skill guys for offense and emphasize much of the skill guys on defense.

We have over three players who would make Florida's two deep. We don't have a QB who would make their 12 deep. We don't have a linebacker or DB who would make their 4 deep. We simply are not a talented team. It will take time.

I think we're a little more talented then that. Obviously we're not as talented as Florida but I was not expecting us to win a championship this year anyway. Florida's coach has been successful with much less talent than NU has. Put your players in position to win that is their job isn't it?

There are quite a few players who I have seen posters ask, "where is ......" I know Cornicator had alluded to some players not playing due to "effort" in the classroom. Could effort on the practice field be a factor also? Will we see a purging at the end of the season? There are rumors of cancers on this team.

Bo recruited this class, and left the holes where they are now. AA won us a lot of games last year we would have lost without him. M-State, for one example.

Yesterday's loss is not on the players, but on the staff. As much as I hate to say it, I think Bo wins this game. The other losses, I honestly believe we lose by more. Just my opinion, and I can't say 100% Bo wouldn't have won those. Yesterday's game is the worst game coached offensively this year, IMO.

I think Bo would have a similar record to HCMR this year, but in the next couple HCMR would have slightly better years, record wise. It will take time for MRs recruits to come in to really be sure. (I'm certainly being optimistic and hoping he isn't the next Callahan, as some have predicted. However, if he gets Callahan's recruits and we have a great hire, these dark years will be worth it, Callahan could recruit, just couldn't develop)
