Portal Offers and Visits

I have no idea if this particular player is good, but that's the thing to do. Try to find guys that kicked ass at Mac, MWC, etc schools.
Yep.

I think year 1/2 of the portal the method seemed to be to get highly recruited HS guys that were sitting the bench at "big schools".

But it makes more sense to get a guy that has a lot of college experience. Understand college practices, lifting, eating, college playbooks and so on.

What kind of WRs are Cook and Key in terms of traits and skillsets

Key is a bigger possession type guy, but he is more athletic than guys like Bonner and Washington were. He’s had back to back 700+ yard seasons in the SEC.

Cook was a former 5-star who is crazy fast, but didn’t really get in the rotataion at Texas. 150ish yard each of that last two years.

These are the type of guys we need to go after. Dudes who have actually proven they can do something at this level. I’ll take Strader or World over some former 5* that rode the pine for 2 years at Georgia or OSU.
Exactly. One thing we have learned in the transfer portal era is that there is a reason why some of these 4 star high school guys are riding pine once they get to places like Texas and Georgia. Those schools have their recruiting busts too. Think of a guy like Dowdell who was a 4 star coming out of high school who then transferred when he was buried on the depth chart. He is a serviceable runner but nothing special. Certainly not a difference maker. Nayor too.

I don't have a problem with a couple young portal players, but it has to be at a position with depth and experience. Definitely no more junior or senior career backups.

Ideally we would have a scout for FCS, a scout for the MAC... Find some young guys who can tolerate being on the road and have them log miles. Could piggyback and h.s. scout those areas too.

I really like him. He’s not an every down back but a power rusher is invaluable and he does have moves more so than typical power rushers

The other factor is that they go to these schools where they are competing for spots with other 4 and 5 star players. These schools are recruiting at about 70-80% Blue Chip level, meaning that percentage of their recruits are 4 and 5 star players. Someone is going to be the shortest giant (opposite of the tallest midget).

This one is double edged for me... if he's following Terrance to FSU then I 100% get it and am ok with the transfer...

if however, he's exploring going other places then that's some BS after boohoing on the national scene about how much Nebraska means to him and going over his "story"...

That kid needs to be thankful for the team that saw his potential and gave him a shot and not Shit all over them at this time

Also shows coaches are taking our problem seriously.
The guys on the roster have shown in games that they aren't consistent. That's a problem. No way to know that until they either show they can do or can't do it in games. It was a really bad deal for us that they both had issues. :( Maybe one of them would never have problems again but the problem is that they've eroded trust by the staff and kickers

What is the process and timetable for transfers? Do they have a signing day or just start classes?

Big programs will definitely be spending a lot more time evaluating lower level teams from the get-go to identify potential transfers.

It’s become a replenishment business. Everyone is taking from everyone. When we lose quality depth, we have to replace them with equal or hopefully better, ideally someone with proven production and not a back up that only had a high ranking coming out of high school.

The guys we are bringing in are looking to get paid and to elevate their visibility in order to make it to the NFL.
