KF has more power than the AD and the school President. I'll explain. He has metaphorically performed oral sex on all the board of regents. One of them had a kid who wasn't a great athlete, but somehow became a 2 years starter at Iowa.
Former All-Americans like Derby and Cook sent their sons (who were 4 star recruits according to at least one service) to the school and their kids were deprived of any shot at becoming starters. Why? No one knows but KF has always looked at 4/5 star recruits as prima donnas who need to be brought down a few pegs. Epenesa who was a legacy 5 star recruit was only a starter for one year at Iowa. That is true of almost all 4/5 star recruits. They either transfer or get one season in the spot-light At the same time Kirk made sure all 3 of his sons played for him and 2 became multi-year starters, and the 3rd one got more playing time than his talent deserved. One of his sons got arrested twice as a freshman and it didn't hinder his career. Any other kid would've been a permanent bench warmer for that, at the very least.
KF is the most savvy political animal the Univ. has ever seen. He has outmaneuvered his boss in EVERY contract negotiation. From his first days as coach he worked tirelessly at lowering expectations. Saying things like "because of our handicaps we are really a 6 win program so anything above that is impressive" --- basically complimenting himself for 7 or more wins. The sheep known as the press/fans were easily convinced.
    1) When his son Brian was outed for living in tax-payer subsidized housing designed for poor students, the press quickly forgot it
    2) When he made up an award for Doyle two months after he sent 13 kids to the hospital, the press quickly forgot it.
    3) When he hired his son-in-law in a high-paying cushy job and his "boss" found out about it thru the press, Kirk flat out said, "I didn't think I had to clear it with him". When in fact he did because of nepotism language in the contract.
    4) When asked why walk-ons were playing over more talented and highly recruited players and he has always answered with snark.
    5) When his son threatened an official with violence there was no punishment. This was at the same time he was firing assistants for empathizing with players.
    6) Every season his team has gone to a bowl game he has demanded contract renegotiation and gotten a new contract every time. Even if the result was a 6-7 season. His bonuses start at 6 wins.
    7) When his team struggled offensively running the schemes he cherished, he would shift the blame to his O.C. and they would be gone.

    *******************************

This stuff coming out about Brian won't get him fired. There will be pablum spooned out to the fans and press. They will eat it up knowing no one in the state has as much power as Kirk Ferentz. He's a saint in their eyes. But that image has been carefully cultivated and sold with pictures of Kirk receiving the Disney Spirit Award as well as other awards. But his awards were earned by others (mainly his defensive coordinators and the players who ignored his conservatism, in the case of the Disney award it was the borg-like fans), and he happily took credit for their work.

The commentary paints a consistent picture of BF as the prototypical a-hole son working in daddy's business and treating people like trash because he knows nobody will have the stones to go against him.

You learn real quick in an organization if you can really call out people for sucking or whether you'll be the one who gets run out because the person who sucks is more of a favorite than you or is more expensive than you to replace.

Look at how PSU covered up for what went on there, and my God that was the most deplorable stuff you can imagine going on there. You think anyone at Iowa wanted to act out against a celebrated coach because his kid is a dick and they still have a few too many ideas from the 1950 hanging around? Hell no, way too much money floating their way.

Sounds like they were very dedicated to reminding players of their place and that the staff had unquestionable authority. They used the S&C coach and workouts to enforce that military style.

I think NU and Frost have handled recent months very well. They'll be wise to continue to do so.

Iowa and it’s fans truly are the butthole of the B1G conference.

What is wrong with the B1G? Penn state, Michigan state and now Iowa. Creepy conference. Good money though.

Honestly I don't care what Kirk does. That's Iowa's problem and they can deal with it. As a Nebraska fan, I just hope they keep Kirk in the job for a long time to come.

Because we've been such a smashing success against them of late? I don't think KF is as good as they make him out to be, but there are a lot of dudes out there who could do much less with what he has in Iowa City.

Considering today’s current news cycle, I don’t see how this staff can survive the accusations. If it’s all true, they should be gone. If it’s not true, they may be gone anyway.

I definitely agree that Iowa firing Ferentz would be bad for Nebraska because odds are good they'd hire a better coach. His record alone proves what you said - he could be better and he could be worse. That's the definition of a dead average coach.

Don’t you think that all depends on who Barta comes up with.. Other than Bob Stoops they would have growing pains hiring a new Head Coach especially after 20 years in the same system..

well, since he left OU long before he needed to and years later couldn't win half his games in a bootleg pro league, I'll continue to assume his heart isn't where it needs to be to get back to going .500 in bowl games in a big time conference.

as for mack brown, he went 7-6 in the ACC his first year. big whoop.

This is sooooo true. Worst case BF knows he is there as the OC for as long as he wants. Best case he is the new HC in a few years with a fat contract.

7-6 is good now since Frost hasn't done it? okay. sure.

hey maybe bobby knight's tenure at texas tech is something for washed up bob stoops to shoot for at iowa

I don't think it's any surprise he's not a coach right now. he doesn't want to be.

Iowa finished the season ranked in the top 10 in 3 of Ferentz’s first 6 seasons. Including 2 co-big ten championships.

that cemented his long term tenure at Iowa

Stoops played for Iowa and was their #1 choice before OU scooped him up..
Last I checked Knight didn’t play for Texas tech and has nothing to do with this conversation..

You may be right but we won’t know for a fact till Caption Kirk resigns and who Barta goes after... I will guarantee you he will be asked..

you have a hard time with parallels.

knight, like stoops, was an aging one-time great who tried to rehash the glory years elsewhere. their respective alma mater is what has nothing to do with this conversation.

there are very few, if any, coaches who've left the game for as long as stoops has after enjoying the success he did who found that magic elsewhere down the road.

he's washed up, and if iowa brings him back, i certainly won't be shaking in my boots about it.
