Players and coaches are risking their lives for our entertainment

Keep that in mind. Not liking the criticism coming from this board given all the hootin and hollaring the Huskers did this offseason.
Yep. They’re a bunch of dancing bears riding mini bicycles for our entertainment, forced to play a game they despise just for us fans.

This is a very bad post. I agree that the criticism is over the top, but your premise that they are risking their lives is a tad drama-queen like...

Lol. I risked my life driving to buy some groceries yesterday. Might have been killed, hundreds killed daily doing just that.

To top it off, some jerk cut me off pulling into the lot. Even tough I had risked my life just to be there. Talk about no common courtesy.

On the way home, I risked my life at a gas station filling up the truck. Had to handle a flammable liquid that's known to combust. Was really nervous but I got the job done.

On top of all that, I then had to bring the groceries into the house. People have been killed doing that.

But I made it through OK.

Further, I don't think I contracted the 'rona after all that risky behavior even though I left my house -- throwing all caution, common sense, and CDC guidance to the wind.

Wore my mask during all the 2-10 second encounters I had with others, and then even for some extra protection, I wore it for awhile while driving home in order to cancel out any bad behavior I might have been guilty of while at the store -- so I should be good.

But I might be dead from it in a few days. All for the sake of gas and groceries. Won't know for awhile.

I feel lucky. Probably won't be going out again for awhile. Just gonna stay here where it's safe.

Except that I just saw an article on CO poisoning. It kills people. And it's getting cold, so I might have to run the furnace. It's going to make CO. I don't have a CO detector. Would have to risk my life again going to the store to get one. Or risk my life waiting for Amazon to deliver one. I think I'll just stay safe and be cold. On a related note, anyone know how many people freeze to death each year?

I assume you're talking about their risk of contracting Covid. If so, yes, they are putting their lives on the line playing a game they love that pays for their education and all the perks that come with being a Division 1 athlete for a deadly virus that will kill .0003% of them. Actually, probably less because they are all in superior health condition.

I'd suggest you stop consuming the fear porn and read some data.

Hey, OP, hope you have a lovely Sunday. I honestly feel the board is in a pretty good mood with this loss; criticism is lower. That's most likely complacency to losing against top teams. It may happen again next week and the voices will increase, rightly so. Now, if we play in a close game, or lose to Northwestern, look tf out. Board will implode with Scott hotseat and A.M. v. Luke threads. Also, they'll change our DC's name to Chinan_er.

“given all the hootin and hollaring the Huskers did this offseason.”

Who exactly was doing all this hootin and hollering this offseason? Very curious to see your answer. I remember seeing players that wanted to play but that was literally it. There was a bunch of players being vocal about that from our Huskers, OSU, to Clemsons T Lawrence and number of other players. So please, break it down for us....?

Hundreds of high schoolers and college kids in our area have either been tested positive or had significant exposure to positive testers. Not a single kid has gotten seriously ill. When the flu gets rolling we'll have way more seriously ill kids from that than we're having with COVID.

No kidding. This was humble pie off season. We learned our lesson. They just wanted to play.

Interestingly, flu cases are WAY down so far this year.

Things that make you go 🤔.

It's early yet but the masks and all of the hand sanitizer use is going to reduce flu cases at least for now. Shutting down buffets is a big deal as well. People are being WAY more careful than they normally are about their personal space and hygiene. The next edict from the CDC is that we need to do the masks and social distancing every flu season going forward. Just wait.

Except there are no RCT studies that show masks decrease the spread of flu. A large study of mask effectiveness in Denmark is not being picked up by any of the peer review journals and speculation is because it shows they aren't effective in stopping the spread of Covid, either. The data that is coming back showing cases in places that did and did not have mask mandates suggests the same.

Maybe the better hygiene and social distancing may be causing a reduction, but the last flu numbers I saw reported were down by something like 90% I think. That's crazy.

I have little doubt that there will be a push to continue the mitigation efforts during flu season, etc. Fauci has already talked about never shaking hands again and just said in an interview he thinks mask mandates nationwide is probably a good idea.

meanwhile, in actual reality, a true hero and football guy through and through finished his cancer treatment today. you probably didn't know he had it since he never said a word and was never absent from the sidelines.

we could use more Ron Riveras in the world, and many less OPs.

People are dying in the streets from C-19, hospital beds are so full that they are delivering babies in tents set up in the parking lot and people are laughing about others concerns regarding the China Virus. Sad truly 😞

There has to be some reduction from mask use. Just not having somebody spray you with droplets has to help some. I agree though that masks are NOT the panacea some people think. Masks as worn by the public are a joke. The masks worn by NFL coaches especially are offensive. There's no way they do any good at all. But whatever. I wear a standard surgical mask to maybe cut down a little on the volume of virus I inhale. Maybe it helps reduce the severity of my infection if I get it. The 6 foot rule is a big deal though. Limit your time within that distance from people of unknown personal habits.

Interestingly I'm friends with several checkers at HyVee and a large farm store. They all say nobody in their stores has gotten the Rona. That seems pretty odd given the number of out of state shoppers we had there this summer. Cops in my town on the other hand, whew. They've had the Wuhan flu. It seems like the Wuhan flu especially likes to infect low lifes getting picked up for shop lifting, domestic assault etc.

Maybe masks help some. But maybe they are making it worse because people don't know how to wear them correctly, touch their faces way more than usual, don't wash them enough, etc, etc. Not to mention that they may give people a false sense of security. There is also growing evidence that wearing masks all the time can have serious long term consequences for people, especially the young.

Anyway, if someone wants to wear a mask, more power to them. Just don't make those who don't want to participate in the delusion.

I take you are talking about the players and coaches who begged, cried, pleaded, argued, sued and what not to be allowed to play this season? Those players and coaches?

You should know better than most - things that seem like common sense are often not supported by science or math.

Are you assuming masks only do something good? What if mass wearing of masks causes an increase in other illnesses?

7+ months into the casedemic and there still hasn't been a study that shows wearing masks by healthy people in public does anything positive. Not to mention the last 100 years...

An allegedly contagious deadly virus, and people should concentrate it into a mask and then put that mask wherever - their pocket, on the table, women put it in their purse, you know with all the items they never use like their phone or wallet, etc.

Nobody is forcing the players or coaches to do anything. Every single players has the right and option to sit if they feel unsafe. Every single coach has the right to sit if they feel unsafe. There is zero repercussion or penalty if they want to not play this year.
Some people need to turn off the news and stop believing everything they hear. Im not going to lie, I have known many people who have had Covid. I don't want it, it sounds horrible. They got through it and only 1 was hospitalized ( she is 94) and fully recovered. I also don't want the flu or to be sick in general. Im not going to sit in my basement afraid to live my life.
