PJ Fleck to Mickey

“You are going to make one hell of a head coach”
Despite the loss Mickey will get the job. He will do great with his own players and systems.
I get the feeling MJ does not have a focused offensive philosophy. And that is with consideration that he only been the HC for two months and has never been a college coordinator.

Of course he did. RollingLaughEvery Big Ten coach wants Mickey to get the job for the same reason they wanted us not to fire Scott, they want the guaranteed win on their schedule.
Yep. Every other big ten coach would love if Mickey is named the Nebraska coach. It keeps us in the cellar for the next several years. Nebraska has the most potential outside of Michigan and Ohio State. The right hire and we are the best team in the west. We keep messing it up and we stay what we are

He will if our new HC doesn’t keep him on staff or he gets an offer from a G5 or lower div school.

What has MJ shown to indicate he is like any of those guys listed above?

Established a culture of working hard, effort, and accountability the way it looks after not even 2 months on the job. I have no idea if MJ is the guy or not, but he has shown enough to be in the conversation. I think he could be a guy that can get a staff together who will all mesh in terms of philosophy. He showed after only 1 week that he will let staff go that aren’t getting the job done.

For the record, he is not my first choice but has done enough to be a serious candidate.

I do think Mickey will probably be a good to great head coach somewhere, I just don't think it will be here this time around. I wouldn't be devastated if he was hired, but with our situation someone more proven makes more sense to me. I like Mickey alot, I just don't think this is the right situation to take a chance on someone with no previous HC much less coordinator experience.

If he had pulled off a Dabo type turnaround, maybe you could justify it, but he hasn't done that. And that's not to crap on him. The team is definitely playing better under him, especially the defense, but not well enough to justify taking that kind of risk.

NU probably needs a complete overhaul.

Bring in a no-nonsense HC with high-quality staff and NO personal relationships with the returning players.

That way, those players can be judged by their level of performance in S & C, practices leading up to the Spring game, their development between the Spring and Fall practices, and then the Fall practices leading up to the 2023 season and let 'er roll.

No preconceived ideas on personnel, no favorites, just the players that are best equipped to help this new coach and staff move this program forward.

Every player has to earn their position and playing time.

Isn't it kinda how it's supposed to be?

Accountability? Seriously? After he kept putting Purdy out there? When he keeps playing Benhart despite terrible effort?

PJ only wants what’s best for Nebraska

I'm sorry but I dont think "on the job training" is listed on the UNL website for this open position. We've trained enough head coaches in Frost and Bo. No thanks! Maybe Mickey can take over at Jackson State when Prime leaves this year?

He is 2-4, likely to finish 2-7 as the interim head coach. I don't see anything about his record that screams he should be our next head coach.

If all anyone looks at is a coach’s record, then MJ is out of the running. There is more to it than the record - culture. That is what made Devaney and Osborne are out the 2 greatest. We haven’t had that same culture since TO.

Just watching games on TV, it would be hard to disagree that the culture is different in his 5-6 games as interim coach.

Again, not sure if it has been enough, but should be considered.

On W/L, Mickey Joseph does not deserve the NU HC job. The culture is changing. Every day, they get better and better. But they can be beat. They will be beat. Because the players are the same. Mickey needs a chance to go out and get guys. The framework for better is in place. Bad, undeveloped players are not going to win in the B10 next week or through the end of the season. If Coach Joseph gets the job, I'm behind him 100%, because the man has a bullshit coefficient of zero. If it's someone else, I'm going to reserve support until I feel like I've figured out who he is.
I was behind Scott Frost upon his hire, and I also knew who he was. I was a fool to think that his coaching skills would outweigh his shortcomings of character as a person. I feel like I know who Mickey Joseph is, and who he will be. I hope he stays If he isn't the next HC, but if he leaves, I'm grateful for his efforts.

Culture is one of those intangibles that is hard to measure.

So Scott Frost was a coordinator and head coach before taking over here, and it was obvious he was learning (poorly) on the job.

We want another coach who is under qualified? Great idea.

Scott wasn't learning... Scott flat out betrayed this school and all that it represents... it's one thing to go balls out and try hard and lose despite your best effort... it's an entirely other thing to not give a crap and do everything but be a leader
