Can't wait till Saturday morning for opening day of bird hunting in Webster County on ye old Walnut Creek farm. Light up the old charcoals after bird cleaning and prepare for some thoroughly smoked Badger on the tube.
Hope you're right. Seems like for the last several years whenever I do something extravagant for a spread when the Huskers play a big game, the meal turns out to be the highlight of the night. Hope it's different this time. Good luck opening day!
There are no birds around anymore! Well, maybe some quail. My vizsla would sure appreciate the work! Good luck to you, sir!Speed
I feel your pain but this is an annual ritual with brother coming up from Ft Worth, friendsfrom St. George Utah, and nearby Hastings guys with well trained hunting dogs (Nothing worse than a poorly trained hunting mutt). This group of Huskers may not look like much but they have heart. Hope they get it done.
listening to Lyle while getting ringnecks by Norfolk or bobwhites by Tecumseh was goodtimes! There are no birds around anymore! Well, maybe some quail. My vizsla would sure appreciate the work! Good luck to you, sir!
Used to walk the trees on the farm when i was a kid. Rarely got skunked with the old single shot .410listening to Lyle while getting ringnecks by Norfolk or bobwhites by Tecumseh was goodtimes!

Loss of habitat and drought. I used to find birds in fence rows with my dog on the edges of crop fields. When corn skyrocketed years ago, everyone started ripping out fences or planting fence row to fence row. CRP acres were down because land was worth way more with corn on it.Why not? What happened to them?
the crp land around Norfolk was good, farmers were nice, ( guess I was listening to kent then)Why not? What happened to them?
The asinine number of chicken hawks does not help. I have seen lots of bald eagles enjoying pheasant as well.Honestly thought you guys were going to tell me a mountain lion or some other predator was eating all of them. I'm not a hunter (like I had to tell you that) but my money would have been on predators.
I heard mountain lions are coming back, because people don't trap as much..not sure that's true or not, but I had one a couple blocks from the house at 120th and Q. the police shot it..they follow the creeks into the cityHonestly thought you guys were going to tell me a mountain lion or some other predator was eating all of them. I say, yes I am..... boyOK, I can't read the word "chicken hawk" and not crack a smile thinking about Foghorn Lehorn (sp?) Oh you're old enough to know what I'm talkin bout.
Meet you there on Saturday. You East or West of the diversion dam???? LolActually pheasant numbers are great in our part of the world. 3 miles north of Kansas border. South Central Nebraska. It does help that we are in year 15 of a CRP program. Quail numbers are up big time too and they are what I really love. Better eating than pheasant in my opinion.
I allways used dads 1100, we got them hedge apples deals to put in the closets to keep moths out, during winter. allways wondered if that really workedUsed to walk the trees on the farm when i was a kid. Rarely got skunked with the old single shot .410

iam coming up to bird hunt this weekend ,what county should I concentrate on . ThanksSW Nebraska bird numbers have to be the highest they've ever been because they are freaking everywhere out here!
Out here farming, I have seen no fewer than 100 Birds every single day. Maybe 200. Not exaggerating.
Isn't Dane county up by Door county?Probably not as familiar as myself. 1871 homesteaded by g
Well we have been on the same land since 1871 when a lost Norwegian came here from Dane County Wisconsin and homesteaded.

What towns are you by? I'm on the Kansas border in south central Nebraska and haven't seen hardly any birds.
Wish we had numbers like that around Hastings. A couple of times in the fall, I'll head north to chase pheasants and turkeys not far from Yankton. Bit of a drive but well worth the time. Have some great friends up there.SW Nebraska bird numbers have to be the highest they've ever been because they are freaking everywhere out here!
