When did he sign this contract. The depth chart from Yesterday did not have him on it . He was still on the PS.? Great for the kid but just curious.

Curious also. I can’t find a reference to it anywhere.

apparently Al Davis's son loves him some fast white guys just like dad. A buddy of mine who was good friends with Lyle Alzado and a WR whose family he knew, claims that Al couldn't remember the guy's name so he called him "that fast little white guy".

Still listed on the practice squad but they must like Sanford enough to ink a deal and keep him around. It's $80,000 guaranteed, so not much risk for the Raiders if they later decide to move on.

Most people under estimate how fast Sanford is and the value of a guy like him to special teams. Add to it that he's smart which at times seems to be kind of a rare trait for some NFL DBs.

Agree, which is why I hope Gifford gets a chance, and no it's not because he's white. Like Sanford he's a Nebraska kid, walkon, athletic and mad football smart.

I don't know if Gifford has Sanford's kind of speed but he'll get signed as an UDFA if nothing else. Then it's just a matter of how he performs in a camp.

That is old news. All undrafted guys get three year contracts for the league minimum when they sign with a team. That's a requirement. The only variance is the signing bonus- Sanford got $80,000. Which is about average. Sometimes guys get $200,000+ if they are in high demand.

Sanford got cut and that league minimum contract was voided. As a practice squad player, he could make $300,000 this year (includes the signing bonus) if he stays on through the season. For any week he gets called up, he'll be paid weekly which would be 1/18th of the league minimum.

He definitely has an uphill climb, but it’s a great story and we’re pulling for him.

I was watching this former lineman being interviewed about how he was able to stick around the league for so long despite being a marginal player. He said he was the guy that was always 15 minutes early to meetings, worked his butt off on every rep, knew the playbook for all of the line positions and had great morale. he was actually kind of a second coach on the field that helped younger more talent players to understand their own positions better. Coaches on the team would vouch for him to stay on because he added so much value. So not a great player, but good enough to be on the squad with intangibles far exceeding everyone else.
