I am re-watching last year's games and as I am just now getting to the Illinois game, something big sticks out to me in these games in particular - penalties; drive-killing, largely controllable penalties. I am aware that we vastly improved as the year moved on and I have every reason to believe we won't start out with a 90+ yd/game avg in that department, but on the other hand we are moving in a decent amount of new guys and rebuilding the Offensive Line. So, my goal of this post is to get input as to:
.) what caused such an influx of penalties (my thought was primarily the misunderstanding of the new system);
.) insight on the amount of focus on improvement in this area by the coaching staff;
.) opinions on whether we repeat the early trend due to the moving up of young folks or continue improvement despite young bucks; and
.) what impact improvement would have compared to other areas in need of improvement (turnovers for example)?
