Pelini's 4-star recruits: How they've panned out

With McMullen and Thurston bailing yesterday, I thought it might be timely to take a look at how Pelini's 4-stars panned out.

These are the 4- and 5-stars (Steinkuhler was the only 5-star signed during this period) that Pelini signed out of high school:

Baker Steinkuhler - moved to defensive tackle, where he was a 3-year starter and was 2nd-team All-Big Ten in 2012

David Whitmore - Didn't qualify and went to Iowa Western; Signed with Baylor after Iowa Western, but didn't qualify and his career was over then.

Will Compton - Four year starter at middle linebacker and was 2nd-team All-Big Ten in 2012.

Chris Williams - Redshirted and then left NU for Division II McMurry University in Texas.

Dijon Washington - Redshirted and spent two years on special teams for NU, then transferred to FCS Sacramento State.

Cody Green - Started 4 games at QB for NU in 2009 and 2010, then transferred to the University of Tulsa.

Rex Burkhead - Two-year starter at I-back and finished his career with 3,329 rushing yards.

Jason Ankrah - Three-year starter at defensive end.

Chase Rome - Started five games over two seasons and then transferred to the University of Memphis.

Andrew Rodriguez - Started 21 games over four seasons at NU.

Braylon Heard - Spent two seasons in Lincoln before transferring to Kentucky.

Corey Cooper - Two-year starter at safety for NU.

Brion Carnes - Spent 3 years at NU as a backup QB, and then transferred to FCS Northern Iowa.

Jamal Turner - Started 7 games over five seasons at NU; Finished career with 73 receptions for 892 yards and 4 TDs.

Zach Sterup - Started 10 games in 2014 and 6 games in 2015.

Bubba Starling - Spent a summer in Lincoln and then signed with the Kansas City Royals.

David Santos - Started 19 games over three seasons in Lincoln.

Ryne Reeves - Started at center his senior season.

Todd Peat Jr. - Spent two years at NU, then transferred to Eastern Arizona College and ended up at Division II Texas A&M-Commerce.

Tyler Moore - Spent a year at Nebraska and then transferred to Florida, where he became a starter on the Gators' offensive line.

Ryan Klachko - Spent a year at Nebraska and then transferred to Illinois; Had to retire from football in 2012 due to concussions.

Charles Jackson - Missed nearly all of 2014 and 2015 due to knee injuries; Special teams player in 2012 and 2013.

Aaron Green - Spent one year in Lincoln and then transferred to TCU; Was TCU's leading rusher in each of the past two seasons; Ran for 1,272 yards on 244 carries with 11 touchdowns in 2015.

Jordan Westerkamp - Two-year starter and was 2nd-team All-Big Ten in 2015; Has 129 career receptions headed into his senior year.

Paul Thurston - Announced that he is transferring for the 2016 season; Appeared in 23 games, all as a reserve center.

Alonzo Moore - Has started 14 games over the past three seasons, and has 40 career receptions headed into his senior year.

Greg McMullen - Two-year starter who announced yesterday that he is forgoing his senior season at Nebraska.

Adam Taylor - Spent 2015 as a special teams player and did not get any carries; Missed all of 2014 with a leg injury and redshirted in 2013.

Terrell Newby - Was Nebraska's leading rusher in 2015; Has 1,360 career yards over three seasons in Lincoln.

Marcus Newby - Started 6 games at outside linebacker in 2015.

Josh Banderas - Has started 19 games over the past three years. Said that he was ready to transfer if Pelini was retained for the 2015 season.

Mikale Wilbon - Appeared in 4 games in 2015 and had 9 carries on the season.

Monte Harrison - Signed with the Milwaukee Brewers out of high school.

Nick Gates - Starting right tackle as a redshirt freshman in 2015, and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team.

Tanner Farmer - Has not appeared in a game over two seasons in Lincoln.
