For me it comes down to him having almost no scrambling ability. The few times he has was because defenses dropped guys into coverage which you saw alot of post Illinois game. If Holgersen does focus on our RBs establishing a run game, then obviously Raiola's job will be alot easier. So far games like that are few and far between. Regardless, he'll continue to help recruit talent, so there's that. 👍
They were worshipped their freshman years, but also made plays with their legs that were rare and won us games, especially TMart. Defenses couldn't stop them because they were a true dual threat. By the end of middle of their junior years Nebraska fans wanted to run them out of town.

What took Dylan 9 games to accomplish (3 B1G wins) Haarberg did in only 5 starts last year.
I’d like to see more and more leadership from DR and think Holgorsen will help tremendously with that.
Quite often. But not this time. In my opinion had Rahmir been able to stay healthy he would have been a very good running back for us.
And obviously I am not high on Dowdell. He is decent in short yardage situations but lacks cutting ability, has poor vision for running lanes, and routinely turns 20 yard runs into 8 yard runs. He is easily tripped up. Another Anthony Grant. It took Holgorsen one week to see that EJ was the better back. One fricking week. And had Rahmir been healthy I think he would have been our #2 back under DH.

Well, yeah. People may still want to run Raiola off in 2 years too. Give it time..... a few people are already saying they don't want him.
Not trying to dog on Rahmir but give me a break. The guy doesn't even have 1,000 yards rushing. In 6 f'in years! Dowdell has 700 rushing yards in 2 years of college. At some point you actually have to produce. It's not like he was Bo Jackson level before suffering a terrible injury. The guy was average and had some injuries. No shame in that. Seems like a great guy.
Hopefully Gramstad gets a chance in mop-up duty late in the game.
I was in row 16 and had virtually the same view of the field as Heinrich. I could see why he did what he did. That wasn't a throw where I said "oh sh##, why did he do that" and there were LOTS of those last year. His running ability is the only reason we had a chance but he directed the offense well and looked pretty good on some throws before that INT. I think Dana could make him a very serviceable backup if not starter if we were without Dylan. The good news is that Heinrich would do that if we needed him. The NFL has seen him as a receiver. I'm not sure that playing a bunch of TE actually improves his draft stock there. GMs LOVE to project guys and sometimes the possibility is more attractive than the actuality.
I would like your take except for one part. The reason defenses keyed on HH's run game in part was because he was not an accurate passer even when he tried to throw to open guys. You scheme to take away the other teams best weapon and HH's best weapon was his feet. I think Thomas has helped him immensely. Dana could do even more IMO. That said, the only way he's a starter at QB again for us is probably if Dylan leaves or is injured for more than part of a game. I know some think it's funny, but I still see a young Josh Allen at Wyoming when I watch Haarberg. Allen didn't juke people. He ran over them or beat them to the sidelne when the pass play wasn't there. Allen threw 5 INTs against Nebraska.
The great thing is Heinrich is STILL a valuable guy to have on the roster. IF I were him I might enter the portal and go find a place where I could either be the starting QB or TE. The guy will do whatever it takes to help NU win. I was plenty critical of him last year but nobody can doubt his commitment to Nebraska and leadership. Regardless of where football takes him, he will do well in life. He's the kind of guy you want to hire.
There's no way in hell Dylan did better than Adrian as a freshman. This argument was already laid out on here and Adrian came out way better. And I don't really care that Dylan was able to check it down and get a high completion percentage/QBR. That style of play doesn't win games.
For as many dropped touchdown passes, Dylan had even more misses downfield that would have led to touchdowns. And these missed tended to happen at critical times, too. You would think a 5 star quarterback would have that clutch factor. Well, we certainly didn't see it.
You may be right about Amart, which should caution anybody about putting a highly rated QB on a pedestal. But there was a certain segment that always hated Tmart, even after a phenomenal freshman year.
There's other factors involved in some of those misses and I know you now that. Sometimes it's a split second jersey grab by a DB that knocks the timing off. Sometimes it's the receiver having to adjust his route for a DB or LB in his path. Obviously there's the potential for a swirling wind, varying speed of the receivers etc. Lots of variables and no doubt some of Dylan's misses weren't all on him. The same was true for Haarberg last year. The other factor for Dylan is that he had multiple injuries this year and one very serious one to his shoulder that aren't talked about because he gutted it out and played.
It's always important to win the last game of the year. Momentum means a lot for a struggling program. With that said I won't be losing sleep either.
