It's comical that people judge Haarberg on one year that he had nobody to pass to, and injuries to our starting line and RBs. His release point has improved drastically this year, and what kittle we saw, balls were put where they needed to be. The WRs just didnt make plays. I'd take his physical style offense over our soft pass first offense now every day of the week.

Thank God he had the rest of the team and a weaker schedule to bail his turnover prone ass out. We win TWO games this year with him at QB.

Actually yeah. Dylan is good at one thing, putting balls in spots, and he struggled quite a bit with that the last half of the season. His lack of athleticism and zero ability to make plays with his legs makes our offense easier to defend. He's been put on a pedestal by fans because of his 5 star ranking. In all reality, if any other QB played like he did the 2nd half of the season, they would have been crucified online. How the Iowa game ended is one of many examples. Instead of criticism, the freshman excuse gets used. Also, when Rhule was hired, him and Trev preached about being a physical ball control offense that huddles and wears teams down. We did that most games last year. The turnovers just killed us. We did it against Colorado and then went away from it other than a few games. They've sold their soul keeping DR happy with a pass first mentality, something that hasn't worked since Steve P ruined Husker Football. Give me a Nebraska team that strives for at least 200 yards rushing a game and a 1k yard rusher each season.
I'll put it nicely and say he had a very subpar year as a Nebraska QB. I think we're too good of a program to be kowtowing to a true freshman QB, and it never should have come down to that. I'm honestly not that enamored by him. He has talent and an NFL arm, but will that be of much use to us in the college game? That's yet to be seen. I'm not a fan of QB's who can't use their feet.
Exactly. If you watch any other college football game you see QBs making plays with their legs, regardless is they're dual threat or not. Give me a QB like South Carolina. The dude is a freak that defenses have to plan around, not his supporting cast. Raiola is a difference maker though on the recruiting front.
You may look at the freshman as an excuse, but it’s still true… He’s a true freshman and will learn. The upside with him is so much higher than it is with HH. Now what you said toward the end I can get behind… I wouldn’t mind if we were a smash mouth run the ball team. I would prefer it. But I think what Raiola brings is a ceiling that we haven’t seen yet. Maybe it never materializes, and if so, then kudos to you. But I think it’s a bit premature to write him off just yet. Not saying that that’s what you’re doing, but I think if we ride this out a little further, Good things may happen.

I’m fine with what he did as a true freshman. 2nd best QBR of all freshman in NCAA.
It’s the difference of a winning season or a losing season in year 2. Seems like a huge deal to me
He had so many dropped touchdown passes this year though. So many passes hitting receivers hands and falling incomplete. I realize he has room to grow but the eyeball test shows he has a huge ceiling and can be very special for us as he and those around him progress
I want him to succeed but don't like how he's been given a free pass for the same mistakes that other QBs over the years have been crucified for, and mostly, I don't like how we specifically changed the style of offense we were sold when Rhule was hired. It's crazy how much flack Haarberg has taken since last year for an offense that literally had no offensive weapons, enough to where teams keyed on him running that ball knowing that that was our only option. As a RS sophomore he should get some sort of a pass right? We've had ZERO success with statue QBs since Solich was fired other than Zac Taylor, and until we get back to having an offense with consistent 100 yard per game RBs, we will continue to be what we have been for how many years now. Holgersen brings some hope with what we saw against Iowa but he still has that air raid mentality. IMO it's just a broken record and polar opposite of what the vision was supposed to be, and maddening that past failures haven't been lessons.
I know you may not agree with me, and that’s fine, but I would say that we’ve never had a statue QB with Raiola’s potential either. If he develops at all and learns from his mistakes, he will be that much better. To compare him to other statues may actually be a disservice.
As far as HH getting crucified, I can see your point. But I don’t think Raiola has gotten off scott free either this year. Some posters have absolutely given him the benefit of the doubt. But quite a few have gone so far as to say he’s a bum and we would be better off if he hit the portal. That’s not giving him a pass.
Now if HH can improve from last year to this year, why do you think Raiola is a finished product now and won’t improve? I know you aren’t necessarily saying that, but you are assuming he will never take Nebraska where we want to go.
The other good freshman qbs were put on a pedestal. People loved Tmart and Amart after their freshman year.
