Parella In-Home with Five Star DT Shelvin

The fact he's even visiting here is huge. We'll never land him but great work by this staff. Unreal.

Guys, don't get your hopes up; it'll never happen. Just ask sg out west or whatever his name is...

Can't remember the last time NU was still in on all these 5-stars in the final stretch. A lot of long shorts but we aren't out of it and that's something. Let's hope the staff works magic and shocks the world.

While we likely won't land most of these kids, the fact that we are in it is huge. It increases our brand and paves the way to landing more of them in the future if we start winning more. These kids want to play for championships and get to the NFL,in order to get them come in to Nebraska in large numbers, we just need to keep gradually improving the talent level we have and then go win. It'll take longer than most of us want, but I think this staff can do it

hoping for dividends. might be tomorrow, but we could use a couple today.

That kid is just massive. That's the boys we need to be reeling in to get back to where we want to be.

Not many other schools can offer up a 12-year NFL veteran to teack him his craft. Kid obviously sees that. And God knows he'll see the Academic Excellence once he's on campus. I actually DO like NU's chances here.
I'd be leading him to the NIC and sell the virtues of that as well as everything else UNL has to offer. Plenty of great facilities beyond the football arena to showcase in Lincoln.

I am sure about three things here.
1. Parella, by all accounts from recruits and their families, makes a VERY good impression as a human being. He makes kids want to play for him and Nebraska. He has that "it" factor that all good recruiters have.
2. Parella is probably telling the kid, with full honesty, that he will most likely play right away as a Freshman given our depth issues on the defensive line.
3. And as was mentioned above, any kid who would come to Lincoln in January must be very serious about looking over our program. So all those people who think we have "no chance" for this kid are just wrong.

There's definitely a chance it's just a very, very, very slim one. I wonder if Ben Miles is in his ear.

I also hope that our Louisiana boys will be showing him around campus; Stanley, Parnell Jefferson, Tyrin, Moore. You have to make Shelvin feel comfortable with people he can relate to.

Add Cethan Carter to that list as well... Didn't he feel like a fish out of water when he first arrived? It wasn't until he and Nate Gerry connected that he finally began to feel better about being here.

We have a decent history of success from Louisiana

He has told the staff on at least two other occasions that he was going to visit but never got on a plane or in a car to make it up.

I'll believe he is visiting when he steps foot in Lincoln. That said, good work staying after it on Parella's part.

On those other occasions has he had a date picked out? I have no idea, that's why I'm asking. If he said he was coming on a specific day but never made it, there is reason for some skepticism. On the other hand, if he never had a day selected, the fact that he has a day picked suggests maybe he has it planned and is serious about it. Could be a good sign...

Once was specific, the other was a "targeted" time to visit.

The attention and mentions are at the very least positive.

Don't get me wrong, I would thrilled to have him.
