Parella going for the late flip

Looks like he has good size. Parella decently tall iirc. If he can rush the passer tell him hes nearly guaranteed to play (at least on 3rd and longs).

If I'm not mistaken this kid has already flipped once (from ND)...don't know if that makes him more or less likely to flip again but worth noting...also worth noting is it had something to do with his sister not getting accepted at ND...at least that is what ND folk claim

I believe he has a Husker connection somewhere down there (a coach or something), he had visited once last year I think.

Long shot I think, but love to see us at least trying.

Love the effort by Parella. But dude isn't coming to Nebraska. Definitely worth the trip to let everyone know you are going after the big boys.

Agreed. No shot but glad our staff is hungry for elite talent. Beal would come in and play immediately, he's that good. Wish we could have got a visit from him during the fall.

I always wonder what makes people so certain these kids can "play right away"as I guarantee the coaches don't say that.

Considering the talent we have at DE, I feel pretty certain. I'm not saying he would start but players like Guy Thomas and Beal have the talent right now to play right away.

Edit: Aside from Beal, and more generally.....I don't question the talent, but sometimes I do question the size or readiness to play at the D1 level.

Fans look at the hype and the stars and the offers, and think, man this kid is going to be dynamite day 1. Or even if not dynamite, pretty darn productive.

The numbers say half of those kids won't do a damn thing in the entirety of their four years. Of the half that do end up doing anything, most of them won't be impact players until later in their career (either as a redshirt freshman or maybe even as an upperclassmen).

We are pretty desperate as a fan base, which tends to overlook such realities. We might get one or two guys that are studs early, but they might not be at positions of desparate need like Rush End. But we do tend to talk about how much impact all these 18 year kids should have, when the numbers say its just not going to happen as a broad "movement".

This year we got shaky play out of Bryant early, and he looked better towards the end. Lamar Jackson, our biggest get, played shaky early was somewhat on a milk carton the rest of the year. Both should be fine for the future. But you are never sure how high school production is going to translate into a true frosh production.

Most people overblow situations. "This player sucks anyone could come in and do better". Reality says, that player doesn't suck as bad as you think he does, and not anyone can just come knock him off because they happened to have a helmet on. Eventually yes, but right away, no.

The visit is taking a shot at Beal of course, however, it is also sending a message to our two "committed" DE's that are flirting with other schools and considering additional visits. They keep talking/we keep doing so as well.

I believe Eric Johnson trains/trained him along with Mo Berry.

What I see @jflores is kids like Beal go to places like UGA or Alabama and play as true freshman.

To me the big difference is that they are surrounded by other elite talent. Using Lamar Jackson as you did is a perfect example. Jackson could have gone to a school like Alabama or Ohio St and played well because they have players around him that would make up for what he lacks in experience. Nebraska doesn't have that level of elite player....yet.

Secondly, coming off a 6-7 season, Riley and Co. couldn't afford to have another "growing" year. There was pressure to win. Jackson is a better cover corner than Jones or Kalu from a one on one talent standpoint. What he lacks is experience. Riley and Banker couldnt afford to let Lamar learn on the job. Same thing with the OLine, experience is an equalizer when it comes to trust in coaching. Again if you matched up Boe Wilson and Dylan Utter against the best dlineman Nebraska has, I would bet you that Wilson performs better. But Utter knows the line calls, Utter has experience and sometimes that experience wins out over allowing players to learn on the job. If you put the 5 best linemen, based solely on ability, and had them play against an experienced or DLine, they would look lost, they would blow assignment, miss reads etc. and look worse than what they put out there this year.

Rant over. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

No totally agree. But, the general vibe I get is, from a one on one perspective, its exactly as you say, Bando lining up to Utter isn't going to do Bando any favors (Broc Bando).

But then someone would say, just play all the true frosh and take Utter out of the equation, well the numbers say most of them will not be impact players "en masse" right away.

Yah although that stack doesn't seem to be in our favor.

Thomas and Porcher have know that a Top 100 guy committed to Georgia is a long shot at best to take their scholarship should they waver.

Well, it all depends on how much time and money you have, and what the chances of a flip are. If it is really known that the dude isn't coming here, then go spend time with someone you have a shot at.

You never know what could happen in recruiting. Since former Husker Eric Johnson works with him, I think you do things like this to show future dudes that Nebraska wants to be a player in Georgia. Most of the guys that Nebraska is in on in Georgia have come from the relationship with Eric. It's similar to why you never piss of a high school coach, they move around some and new kids enter their schools all the time. You have to play the games.

Would probably be the best pass rusher on the roster as soon as signs his papers if he chose to play here. Hes THAT kinda player. Considering it being a position of need he would probably jump to the number 1 player in the class for me if he inked with the good guys.

holla

And he has been on campus once so...

A top 100 player, at your position of greatest need, that has paid his own way to Lincoln once and has a Husker connection opens the door to you...you walk through it and see what happens.

Husker coaches should be fearless recruiters and put our tradition behind no one.

Sure, totally agree.

I'm just saying the leverage is probably not a big deal with the DE's we have. Heck, we were willing to make room for a guy like Shelvin even with all the guys we have on board. We'd make room for this kid too.
