Here are a couple stats that are frustrating as a fan:
- "Fifteen current Big Ten pitchers outside Nebraska have been known to have missed multiple months or longer with arm/shoulder injuries at some point in their college careers, according to research by The World-Herald. The same is true for 12 current Huskers when including junior-college transfer outfielder Nolan Hakel, who pitched at his previous school. There are 206 total pitchers listed on 13 Big Ten rosters."
- "Twelve current Big Ten pitchers outside Nebraska are known to have undergone Tommy John surgery. The Huskers have eight, including Warren and Hakel. That figure does not count junior McSteen, who continues to rehab."
Kudos to the OWH for digging into this and showing the numbers that our pitchers get arm injuries more often than others conference teams.
Also...
- "Nebraska’s collective ERA of 4.62 entering the weekend ranked 141st nationally — it hasn’t finished lower than 79th in any of the past four seasons."
The article ends saying the pitching staff is going to be stacked in 2019 when Palkert, Luensmann, McSteen, Eddins, and Curry all come back from injury and Max Schreiber, Mike Waldron, and Andrew Abrahamowicz have more experience. Hopefully we have some difference makers in the starting role.
Finally, I'm shocked this article isn't behind their pay wall.
