Can he recruit
63 years old.,.....Not that there's anything wrong with that...
IMO if a guy can't recruit he doesn't belong here. We pay a relatively good wage and need people who are equally good at both.not worried about his recruiting chops, can he coach. We have a great db recruiter already. Of course if he can recruit its a double bonus.
Currently he is not a coach at Notre Dame http://www.scout.com/college/notre-dame/story/1518263-elliott-reassigned-on-staff.
On the surface it doesn't bode well that someone would step down from on-field coaching.
Yes, agreed. Just saying i hope he is an excellent coach.IMO if a guy can't recruit he doesn't belong here. We pay a relatively good wage and need people who are equally good at both.

I get some of that but recruiting is paramount
PicsOh goodie the HR police is here.
Tell you what, you hire a 65 year old white man to work at the Victoria Secret on the south side of Chicago. I'll hire the 5'6, 135 lb, 21 year old African American female with a C-D cup, then we'll see who gets more customers.
Sorry that bringing up laws hurts your feelings. I was also attempting to be humorous but someone hasn't had their coffee yet.
What is HR violations?I'm glad people on this board aren't part of the committee of hiring a replacement coach. We'd have some serious HR violations making decisions based on age and race.
If it duplicates a Callahan defense I find fault. Wasn't Elmiasson the guy our D.C. had success with at Wisconsin? That's what I am reminded of."Elliott was in charge of Notre Dame's safeties from 2012-13 while new Husker defensive coordinator Bob Diaco ran the Irish defense" - from LJS
So basically, Diaco is trying to replicate the success he had in 2012 with the #2 ranked defense. I don't see how someone can find a lot of fault in that.

But...He took the less than stellar talent at K-State, and had the best defense in the nation. Give me a guy that can develop talent over a recruiter every time. You may have noticed what a team that has coaches that can develop talent did to us over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Any of these numbers look familiar to anyone?
13 - 49
9 - 38
21 - 45
27 - 25
Those were the scores against K-State with Bob Elliott as their DC in '02 - '05. We finally won in '05. The guy took a 2-star player from Salina, KS named Terence Newman to the Jim Thorpe and Big 12 DPOY winner.
Edit - Our fans have become Star Gazers...again (see Callahan era), which makes sense that we want more talent in Lincoln. But we need coaches that can develop that talent. I would suspect Elliot would improve all positions with his experience coaching all positions.
I'm N on Elliott if Riley and Diaco want him here. He certainly brings a wealth of experience and success with him.

I am having mixed feelings on him, but probably because he is an old white guy lol
The coach needs to be good at both. The logic behind using what Iowa did to us this year is flawed. You may have noticed what a team that has coaches that can recruit did to us the week after we played Wiscy.
