There defense is ALL over us and our defense seems a step behind everywhere. Right now we are shooting at a low 20 percentage and that is equaling out to a 29 to 9 first quarter so far. I'm sorry but this is PAINFUL to watch.

Is it just me or should we have stopped fronting the post about 20 dunks ago? Good God this is infuriating to watch. Everyone at the arena can see it. Did they outlaw zone defense?!!!!

Dominated on Senior night...finish the year 3-6 at home during the conference slate. And those 3 wins came from Rutgers, Minnesota, Penn St. Not good enough Tim...not good enough. Miles will have to find lighting in a bottle to win in this league if he continues to fail on the recruiting trail trying to find a big man.

Another embarrassing outing for Miles' team. Worst loss ever at Pinnacle. And this team is going to struggle next year...again.

Does Coach Parrella have a book of basketball skills he has been amassing for years he can share with Coach Miles?

They had it wrong...we lost by 28 at home to Iowa last year. That game was part of our 9 game losing streak to close out the year. Miles trying to repeat but due to our inability to get a win he may face Rutgers in the Big Ten tournament.

I told my son's before this game started we'd have to shoot lights out like Nova vs Georgetown championship lights out level. This is just a horrible match up for us. About the point difference I expected.

Anyone that seen the first game against Purdue should have known we can't match up with their height.

Besides someone besides Shields has to be able too score and that meant White.

.

I have never seen a team front so much in my life...that was comical at times.
But according to some it was ok, just because we "had no chance". A zone may have at least forced them to not just turn around and dunk it every other posession, but I guess that rolling over is better.

It's not just finding a big man. It's going to come down to coaching a big man. The post defense technique last night was awful. And then they will have to adjust their offense to incorporate more feeds into the low post and more passing in general. The lack of assists in this offense is an issue.

Without Shields next year, it could be the end of Miles.
strongly disagree with this!

Shields is a great player he really is, but we are a better "Team" without" him

When he scores points like that, and no one else does. That tells me Shields only trusts himself... That leads to losses.

You take out his forced shots, we have a lot more open looks. Shields is great, but him being gone is going to be a blessing in disguise I guarantee it.

People said the same thing with Terran leaving.....adding Anton Gill to the lineup it will be no different as he will be a gunner. This really isn't a Shields issue...this is how we have played under Miles. We rely on hero ball...that's not going to change going forward IMO.

No I'm basing my opinion on how they played without him this year, and I liked it a lot more even though they were 1-3

And people are right by saying it. Every statistic imaginable shows this team is better, even the eye test.

How bad has the team defense fell from last year, if any? Seems a lot worse this year.

Oh we are improved offensively compared to last year as last year we were historically bad(#285 in Kenpom)....but we still rely on hero ball far too much for my liking. We are #273 in the nation when it comes to assist per game. That may change if we can continue to increase the talent level but I think Anton Gill will be getting just as many shots as Shields did this year and we will probably be lucky if he's as efficient.

We played well offensively vs PSU and Indiana without him...vs Wiscy and especially Ohio St we were crap. Had he still be out we would have lost our last two games by 20+ points likely. Granted, Andrew White has been injured since Ohio St and he is a big piece of our offense and will be next year. I don't think Shields is someone that can't be replaced...but I'm not buying just yet that we are a better team without him next year. We will need Watson to continue to improve and Gill to be "all that" or else I'm not sure where we will be getting our points from.

Yes we are much worse defensively this year compared to last year....and with an easier schedule. But, as HTO says I think alot of that comes from the youth movement. You can tell alot of our guys are lost on defense and our rotations are late. I would expect that to be much improved next year....hopefully.

Why no mention of Roby? I'm pretty sure he at least deserves a mention

How many points do you expect Roby to average next year? I say he likely averages 5-6 points a game...but he's an all around good player and will help on the boards and per Miles the best passer he has ever recruited. I just don't see him being someone that gets a lot of buckets as a true freshman...probably not realistic to expect that out of him. I would love it if we could end up spreading the wealth more...we just have not seen that as of yet out of a Miles team and I'm not sure we will next year with adding Gill to the mold. But if he can score and be efficient then great.

Well, the discussion was offense and you said you don't see it getting better by adding Gill and subtracting Shields. Every offensive stat possible shows it improved, without Petteway which you mocked people saying although it's clear it happened, some stats dramatically, with a very inexperienced and young team.

I don't see Gill taking as many shots as it's expected of him to be more effective and he has others he'll trust where Shavon trusts one person, himself. You also focus on the addition of Gill and loss of Shields while ignoring 6 other guys that'll take another leap in 2016-2017 plus Roby and Horne. Plus, I don't see the offense running through Gill, it'll be Watson from the get go and he sees the court better than anyone we've had since Lue. Also, Anton can beat someone from the outside, Shavon can't, which is another aspect that'll open up other guys.

Dishing it out has improved each year under Miles, and with the group we currently have, I expect it to take an even bigger jump next season.

2013 - unknown
2014 - 9.5/game
2015 - 10.16/game (corrected from above)
2016 - 11.83/game (corrected from above)

Same jump in 2017 puts us fringe top 150. I will agree with you though, not where it needs to be (I'd like to see around 14-15.5/game), but again, we have seen it out of a Miles team. The issue is, it hasn't jumped high or quick enough, but we have seen it.

Hope like hell you are right HTO and Miles has us heading in the right direction. I'm having serious troubles seeing it. Side bet...50$ Nettie's gift card that we don't go dancing within the next two years?

I have no idea if he's the guy or not, I'm willing to give him another season as there's been plenty I've seen. Especially after last year's disaster.

They don't do gift cards. How about this, loser buys for the winner, including the wives.
