I was just thinking about how we might go about filling our class, the last 1 or 2 guys after announcements are over. So, maybe the 500 mile radius might still have something to offer. Figured I would share.

In-state ranked and uncommitted:
Logan Strom - TE, no NU offer. Rated 5.5 3*
Jaylin Bradley - RB, no NU offer. Rated 5.5 3*
There has been some discussion on here about these guys, but no NU offers.

500 mile radius
10 states - ND, SD, NE, KS, OK, CO, MN, IA, IL, MO
Not included - AR, WI, WY, TX panhandle

20 total 4* players
5 still uncommitted - DE, DT, LB (JUCO), WR, and TE. We have offers out to some.
Of those committed - 5 for OU, 2 for ND, and 1 for each NU (McQuitty), Mich, Mich St, Mizzou, Iowa, Illinois, Wiscy, CU. Not saying we couldn't flip someone, but all are Power 5 schools.

128 total 3* players (not including the two from Nebraska)
27 still uncommitted - no counts, but someone else can if they desire. And some will be JUCO's that wouldn't fit.

5.7 3*'s - 9 left, but one is Reese Leitao
5.6 3*'s - 8 left
5.5 3*'s - 10 left

Players with NU offers - 13 NU offers out of the 128 total 3*'s.
5 Still uncommitted with NU offers, which includes Reese Leitao.

So, what do I think I learned. Not very many uncommitted players in the 500 radius at this point in the cycle. Only 10 uncommitted players inside the radius with NU offers.

If I did the search correctly, we have offers out to 73 uncommitted recruits (includes the 10 in the radius) and we have 9 spots to fill. Not even considering if the uncommitted recruits still have interest in NU or class makeup, we'd need close to 1 out 8 picking us. Of course the coaches have a way better idea than fans on how we finish, but it's looking to be an interesting finish.

Paup is in-state and got offered by NDSU a couple days ago. Not sure what our opinion of him as a fallback option at the DE position is.

I think Paup would be a huge get as a walk-on, but I would rather see guys like James Lynch, Anthony Payne or even Kitrell as fall backs.

In general, I leave it up to the coaching staff to evaluate and offer. To be honest, I haven't looked at any recruit film, stats, honors/awards this year. There's so many offers that go out, and so little of my time. I wasted so much time last year following players with zero interest in NU. And the biggie, to call me an amateur at film review and evaluation would be a very generous compliment.

With that being said. Carl Nassib walked on to Penn St unrated, walks out as an all american with multiple top awards. The problem is that stories like this are anomalies and far removed from the norm. If our coaching staff would've offered Paup months ago or even at the end of the high school season, then I could see a case for the staff really liking his potential. Even if they told him it was a tentative offer there'd be a strong case for a fallback option. But they didn't. If they offer him now/before signing, it looks like serious failure on the coaching staff's part on landing one of their true targets. There was some video, maybe from FNL, where Paup ran a 4.75 40, which I think is pretty dang impressive for a big guy, unless I'm confusing him with someone else.
