OU Fans Want Out of the Big XII

I support them in their desire to move. It would be great to have them in the B1G.

It would be great to have them on board. I can't imagine the $EC wouldn't be drooling to have them on board as well. OU leaving is the last thing that conference needs. That's for sure.

While I think it would be fun to have them in the Big Ten, they didn't exactly do us any favors in the Big 12 either. They voted against us and with UT a lot. They didn't want to keep our rivalry game and let it end. Remember when a couple of their women's basketball players were harassing our volleyball players on the court during a match, and their coach just laughed at it. Our buddy Dan Beebe called it an "educational opportunity". Right. And how about our o-lineman (can't remember who) being charged for assaulting a roughneck on the field during pre-game warmups when they weren't supposed to be there anyway. I'll also never forget the 2000 game in Norman when their fans were outside the stadium screaming at my 11 year old son and me. We had to walk through piles of beer cans and there was no security in sight. So my memories of OU are not what they were up until the late 1990's. Yes, I appear to hold a grudge.

So let me get this straight. The Oklahoma media loves to say that most of our fans regret leaving the Big 12 for the B1G(despite evidence to the contrary). So does this mean that according to them we wish we could go back to the Big 12 while OU wants to leave?

An interesting side note is how Texas is working against UH getting in. They don't want UH competing with them in Houston. They are in it for themselves and only themselves.

I doubt many OU fans want out of the Big XII. Their past, present, and future is recruiting the state of Texas. What the hell are they going to do in the Big Ten, for example? Dump the last 100 years of being the big dog to line up for Ohio recruits behind OSU, Michigan, Michigan State, etc.?

The SEC is another deal, and they should sacrifice chuckwagons to the gods to get there. They'd get an even bigger boost from SEC membership than 'Zou or aTm. They'd not only grab Texas recruits like always, but hit up the SEC as well. Plus, the SEC looks the other way when it comes to rules violations...perfect for the land stealers!

I agree. I think OU is a better fit for the SEC, and their recruiting would only get better. Goodness if Mizzou can walk into that conference and win 2 division titles, OU should be just fine.

OU would want no part of the SEC.....

There was a time I would've agreed. I think OU jumps at the SEC if they have the chance. Their recruiting will only improve and they'll make all the money they're hoping to make now. They'll be in huge games every week. I was chatting with a Mizzou fan, and he said that compared to the Big XII, every SEC game feels like a bowl game. No more trips to Manhattan, Ames or Lubbock. I know football doesn't rule everything, but it's a big player. I think they go SEC if they leave.

I love how SEC fans always forget about Vandy and Kentucky, as if they don't have any shitty teams in the SEC. Just wait a few years and Ole Mi$$ will be back in the sewer and Miss State probably won't be far behind since Prescott is gone.

I don't think people forget about Vandy and KY, I suppose they just pay more attention to everyone else. I understand what my Mizzou buddy was saying, I get it. I think we get a lot of that same kind of feeling in the B1G. More so in the first year when we were going to have Mich, MSU and PSU every year, but that's my sour grapes for being tossed in the West. I think b/c OU's geographic location and their current recruiting areas, the SEC would be a better fit. Would I personally like them in the B1G? Of course.

Texas A&M's has improved dramatically too, but it's getting them nowhere. You also can't compare Mizzou and Oklahoma when it comes to being in the SEC. Mizzou is used to being an afterthought whereas Oklahoma has always been a top dog. Throw them in the SEC and they are fighting to be middle of the pack most years.

OU fans are something like this, IMO
30% Great fans, like any other major college football fan base.

50% Welcoming and pose no threat, still die hards.

20% These fans rival that of the bottom of the barrel CU/iowa fans.

The Big 12 is too dysfunctional. I think OU goes with a solid offer But with who is the other question. KU makes sense if we are talking BiG TeN. I'm not sure that would work for the SEC though. With texass not allowing expansion, there is no real reason to extend the GOR, so they all might just wait it out 7 years and see how it all shakes out.

While everyone is so quick to point out how the SEC must not be all that because Mizzou won some games in their division, does that also mean the B1G sucks because we've accomplished less in the B1G than Mizzou has in the SEC? You know, one division title, no match for the team in the title game that wasn't even the best team in the B1G because OSU wasn't eligible to play or it would have been worse. Or do we only apply the "That conference must suck because so and so won a division, but not the league" to other conferences?

Mizzou got real lucky to win their division in the SEC. Traditional programs were down, their schedule avoided the best teams, etc. Doesn't mean the SEC still isn't the best conference, and has been for a really long time.
