Watching a show in Hulu called Call 911. It has a carjacking and the cops call OnStar to help locate the vehicle. After a few steps they help the police out. When the Officer says he is behind the vehicle OnStar says they will start flashing the lights on the vehicle so the police could verify that it was the correct area. After doing that, OnStar then shuts the gas off to the vehicle so the driver would have control of the vehicle but the vehicle would slowly stop running. This was pretty crazy as I didnt know they could do all of that.

Vehicles have had EDR's that record pretty much everything for years. The Driver Privacy Act signed into law by Obama makes vehicle owners or lessees the sole owners of EDR data. While it can be used in a lawsuit, it can't be taken without your permission for other purposes.

Now, if you plug in a device to get a discount on your car insurance, that's your fault...

if you ok with onstar that they can share it though, all bets will be off who they will provide it too. Onstar- and others like them - will figure out how to easily get permission(just think how often we click on on app updates which can be giving away all kinds of approvals) because info about us = $ for them

A friend was involved in an accident last spring that wasnt his fault. The cops asked him if he would let them use the EDR in his vehicle to see if he was breaking the law. He knew he wasnt so he allowed them to use it.

If your a emt or paramedic fireman either paid or volunteer be careful what you say in the event you respond to a vehicle accident that has on star, on star records everything you just might end up in court with a lawsuit against you and your department because of something you said

Thats not entirely accurate. OnStar will disable a confirmed stolen vehicle for law enforcement, but it won't entirely shut it down. The vehicle will still be able to drive, but only at five MPH. What sometimes results is a VERY slow speed pursuit where the bad guy refuses to stop. OnStar is awesome for locating stolen vehicles parked though.

Well that is different from what the OnStar rep said and what was shown.
