OT: The Oracle is hanging it up

As a very small (but big for me) shareholder, I’m kind of relieved. Always felt that if he died while CEO, panic would set in.

Watched some of the q&a earlier today. Man that was like listening to rfk Jr. Hard to listen to.

Congratulations to him. He's had a heck of a career

What the guy has accomplished in the business and financial world is amazing. You don’t read about his affairs, lawsuits or personal issues. You will find some that want the complain about when he took a business and things weren’t the same anymore. There was a reason they got bought out and were in trouble. Congratulations to him and his many shareholders. I wish I had been one.

It doesn’t affect me. The guy got a lot of legislation passed so he could profit and kill the small businesses
The legislation part I'm scratching my head. Not doubting you it's just not popping in my mind right now

We have some Berk B shares. Historically all it has meant for me is spending too much 💵 this weekend at NFM. My wife, who's in finance did drag me to see him and Unger a few years back. It was interesting for awhile but I think people think he's gonna spill the deets on how to get rich quick and of course it was more a discussion of market trends, some sound advice and reminiscing. Glad I went, but I live close and haven't been back.

Pushed for death tax, the average person couldn’t afford to pay the death tax so they end up selling out and his big corporations can swoop in and buy the property up cheap

Will be interesting to see how Brk performs this week. Well deserved retirement. Guy is a legend. I don't know if most people realize what kind of cash they are sitting on. It's unbelievable.

Thanks for posting. I hadn't seen that before. 2 million is way too low for small businesses/sole proprietorship. There’s ways around it i guess using LLC and trust but I would rather keep things simple

I don't think Warren had any effect on estate or inheritance taxes. Seems to me that Nebraska once again managed to find a way to tax it's citizens where other states somehow get by without the high taxes. Yes, the inheritance tax will affect me.

Ok. Hard to tell with an article that didn't provide any actual evidence. I think people are really digging deep to find reasons to hate Warren. Pretty laughable when people are attacking a guy for only drawing a $100,000 annual salary and then donating his wealth to charity. What a scumbag. Lol.

I guess I’m a scum bag, I don’t hate Warren and there’s no class envy, what I don’t care is he made out to be a hero but he’s done some things that screw the little guy.

Did he actually do anything to screw the little guy, or just give his opinion on a subject?

I think that probably goes for anyone who has accumulated the wealth that people like Buffett has. He’s a smart businessman who has taken advantage of opportunities when they present themselves. Can’t really diss the guy for that.

Pretty simple. His company pays him a taxable wage of 100k. Company might pay all his other expenses related to his company

They pay for his personal security. I dont believe they pay for much, if anything above that. Really does take a pretty humble person to not take a 20 million dollar salary when he could demand that and so much more.

What else would you need if your company pays for everything he needs to do.

I'd like to know what he pays his secretary since he's always said she pays more in taxes than he does.

Huh? He could have bought a $30,000,000 house like all the other CO'S and then taken a salary in the tens of millions to pay for it. Downplaying his lack of a set salary is just strange.

I'm not badmouthing uncle Warren. I applaud him and his successful career and yes he's lived common man's life of means. I'm just saying that 100k as a salary is a little bit fake

Did he own a house in SF? Wasn’t his wife estranged from him for years? I’d bet money he found a tax loophole where he was able to pay himself way more than 100 grand completely legal but again the little guy wouldn’t be able to do that and end up paying a lot in taxes

I imagine that he's finally slowing down and that's why he's retiring. He's done a lot for American investing-- he's gotta be the most quoted too.

There will never be another one. The man studied the market his entire life. His level of personal expertise will never be matched. It's a shared information, internet, AI game now.

Another reason that there will never be another one is he never really spent much money on himself. Lived in that same house for years. I heard he drove the same car for years too.

He said his secretary pays a higher tax rate than he does. Long term capital gains tax is low.
