So I'm currently rocking the iPhone 6 Plus. Have been eligible for an upgrade for a while now, but it's getting me by just fine...being a bit of a tech snob, which device in 2017 should I covet the most:
iPhone 8 (10th Anniversary, major rehaul in design)
Samsung Galaxy S8 (they won't f**k around after the Note disaster)
Or...the Google Pixel 2 (thought the first iteration was a great start)

As far as I'm concerned, it's those 3 phones and everyone else in '17

Have been loyal to Apple since the iPhone 4 but think if any device would make me jump to Android, it would be one of the 2 mentioned above

I have an iPhone 5 and it's doing just fine so I wish you the best of luck. Winking

I have a galaxy but am waiting for the s8 supposedly coming out in the spring. I want it as much for the camera features as anything else

Stick with Apple.
I have both an iPhone 6 and a Samsung Galaxy. I need both for various reasons. Mainly to keep my home/personal phone separate from my business phone. I have used Apple stuff since 1989 but got a super deal on the Samsung when shopping for my second phone.

Anyway... I like both. I think the Samsung has a better camera and seems to get better phone/data reception out here in the boonies. I think the iPhone is much more geared to Apps than to data reception. And it shows. I much prefer all of my iPhone apps to those for the Samsung. And when I am getting good phone reception on the iPhone the sound quality seems much better than the Samsung. I also love iTunes and I think the sound of the music on the iPhone is superior

If I had to choose I would go with the Apple for overall reliability/durability of hardware, the apps, and great sound quality on the phone and with music.

But the Samsung takes amazing pictures, gets great reception, and when I use my phone as a camera I always use it over the iPhone.

I own the Samsung note 4 but last year I had the note 7 and LOVED it but was forced to give it back. I believe the Note series (besides the battery flub) has the best phones period.

My note 4 is now like 3 to 4 years old, still a good phone. Odds are pretty good that when the new note comes out (I hope they make a new one) I will prepare order it.

I have the Galaxy S6 (been all Galaxy for me, but I hope the S8 is better than the S7, ehich was worse than S6 imo) and my brother has always had iPhones.

My brother gets better reception than me (2 different carriers though) whether inside a building or out in the middle of nowhere.

His iPhones always have issues crashing, faulty hardware, or the phone just dies. He has had 4 or 5 different iphones in the last 2 years. Apple has taken back 2 of them after they couldn't fix them when he sent them in to him. He is not a techy and never roots phones. Guessing he just has bad luck!

Galaxy S6 takes great pictures.

iPhone has better software/apps for most things. I like that my brother can send big videos through text message while my Galaxy cannot.

I hated Android when I first used an Android tablet after having used an iPad. Ever since the Galaxy series, I prefer an Android and don't plan to go back to an Apple. My brother will never leave Apple though.

With most people being either Apple or Android, it surprises me that someone would switch from one to the other.

I really like the S7 and I liked it significantly more than the S6. Water resistance and the microSD card were the two biggest things for me. The S6 did not have either of those. I also had issues with the S6's battery life compared to my S7. Aside from those two features and my experiences with the battery life, the S6 was definitely a good phone.

I got an iphone 6s for my work and I don't think there's too much difference any more between the Samsung and iPhones. They both have had issues with batteries - one obviously much more serious than the other. Apps seem to load faster on the iphone but it's not that big of a difference. My S7 seems to have better battery life than the 6s (I need to get mine switched out the next time I'm in Omaha as it qualifies for the recall). Both good phones.

I'm looking forward to the S8, just hope it's not the 5.8 inch option and that there's a smaller phone option than that but that's what I've read. The rumors about the iphone 8's wireless charging seems interesting too. We'll see though, should be a fun year.

I have Apple and I'm not too sure what it would take to make me switch to Android short of Apple going out of business. That being said do as you wish it's your phone, one rumor I've heard though the next iPhone will carry a price increase that could be pretty hefty.

Looking back at my comment, I do not like my statement about the S7 being worse than the S6, especially since I have not had the S7 and have only looked at a couple minor specs of it.

My sole reason was the camera going from 16MP (S6) to 12MP (S7). I just read an article about why they changed it down to 12MP and I feel dumb saying the phone is worse.

My S6 has a good battery, but it is not as good as it was during it's first 10 months of life. I like the waterproof part. Maybe I should actually know something about a phone before I comment about it

I have a couple different phones and prefer the galaxy the most. Both my sons are still on the S5Actives too.
I am considering a switch from At&t to Verizon though.
Any thoughts on which is better between those two?

If you're a tech snob, you have no business being on an Apple device.

I'm kind of a tech snob myself...currently rocking a 4s. I'm wondering what kind of phone to wait for in 2020 or so, or whenever mine breaks or stops working.

Like the guy at Staples told me in 2010 when I bought a new desktop computer; he told me that I need to come back in 2 years to get anothet because they don't last longer than that.

I still have it and it works great still! (Knock on wood!) The previous one lasted 8 years and I expect this one to last at least 8 years.

I used to be an upgrade every 2 years guy because I loved having new phones and also they way the old phone plans were structured on contracts there was really no reason not to upgrade. Now, with the phone plan separate from the device cost, I don't see the need to spend $650+ every couple of years on a new phone when the one I have works just fine. I also have a 6 plus and I plan on keeping it until Apple does not support it with updates anymore or the apps I use the most stop working well.
