OT: Patton leaving Jays, declaring for draft

Creighton will go 0-30 next year, and the year after that, and the year after that, before dropping basketball completely.

(Just thought I would go ahead and get that out of the way...)

He's making the right call. No guarantee he would make the kind of improvement needed to become a top 5 pick.

I hope he goes on to be an all star but I'm not seeing how he makes it past the first two year contract. Good luck to him.

He is making the right call and that in itself is one of the things that is wrong about the NBA. I follow the NBA draft pretty closely. There's lots of talk about the importance of declaring for the draft early before your draft stock suffers due to (A) giving the scouts an additional year to over analyze your game and (B) everyone realizing as you get older that the "ceiling" people give you as a 19 year old will be far out of the reach of 90% of the players drafted-- (which is why it's called a ceiling). The end result is lots of kids drafted way before they are ready and most of those kids never amounting to much. NBA benches are full of raw 20 year old talents instead of sharp, competitive vets.

Here's hoping that Patton develops into a fine NBA player and doesn't have to spend too long in the D League.

It's unbelievable that creighton would go 0-30 when you consider:
-they play Miles next year
-the big east is the worst conference in the history of basketball

Seems like he could use another year but if you are going to get paid its tough to turn down. He is going to need to bulk up quite a bit if he wants to stay in the league.

He is too light in the arse to play the 5 and does not have the skills to play a 3...so he'll be a 4 with mostly an open floor game and limited defensive skills (although he can and does block shots well). The thing I don't think he will ever have is skills to drive the ball - he'll be a spot shooter, open floor runner, play above the rim guy....that gets pushed around in the box. I don't think he can be a starter any time soon if ever - but the NBA will pay you alot of money to ride pine and attend practice.

He was a 6'2" guard as a freshman. He has decent ball handling skills, he can drive, and can shoot from 3 pretty well, CU just didn't want or need him to do too much of that. He grew late, which is why he was a fairly unknown until late in his high school career. I don't think anyone expects him to play the 5 in the NBA.

Your concerns about him getting pushed around in the box were some of the same concerns that people had about Kevin Garnett, and he played 21 years. Mikki Moore had a decent NBA career. Both were built like him. I'm not going to say he'll be another Garnett yet, but I certainly think he will be no worse than Moore.

The latest mock draft I saw showed him going to Denver with the 14th pick. In today's NBA, he will play. 30-40 years ago?????

I hope he "falls" to Miami. The heat need height. Their bigs were all D League products. I realize that Whiteside is awesome but when he is not the game there is little rim protection.

With or without Patton, Cray jumps out to a 18-4 lead at first media time out when nebrasketball travels there this December.

True, but to a large degree, NBA teams are drafting potential, not the "now". More and more common in the NFL as well.

Agree. But my comments were to the poster that was questioning if Patton could play in the NBA 30-40 years ago. At that time big men were allowed to develop their games and their bodies in college. As you stated, that isn't the case now.

Why yes, I am seven years old. o_O

No, I don't think Miles will beat Creighton next year.
The Big East comment was a goof on another poster.

Clear enough for you yet?

In case anyone else is confused, I don't really think Creighton will go 0-90 the next three seasons. How could they, with McDermott misleading recruits by promising them riches in the NBA?

I can't believe Patton would bail on his teammates like that
