OT Matthew Anderson...

No rivals rating/offer list is underwhelming. Reach or under the radar?

Under the radar IMO. I love these lean OTs coming out of HS; so much room to add weight and their athleticism is set in place already. You see tons of former HS Tight Ends turn into very athletic OTs. He'll be 5.7 when it's all said and done.

Exactly, if he is athletic, a 6-7 300lb athletic OT in 3 years as a redshirt sophomore, or sooner. I trust Frost on this.

We seem to be recruiting a lot of "under-the-radar" guys for the 2019 class. Interesting considering this staff was able to land seven 4-star guys in the 2018 class on short notice after being hired. It doesn't seem like that momentum is carrying over to the 2019 class.

Yet just picked up a commit from the #1 or #2 Juco interior OL and a 4* QB/Ath

Did you want the link for the OSU Beaver boards?

McCaffrey's a 3-star on this site. Good athlete but hasn't even been the starting QB on his high school team yet - most other major programs did not recruit him as a QB. Kind of reminds me of Taylor Martinez on film - I think projects more as a WR at this level. I hope we still recruit Jayden Daniels.

Are you confusing me for a Mike Riley fan? That's funny. This staff did an incredible job putting together a Top 20 class in 2 months, so with a full year to recruit, I had high expectations of maybe a Top 15 class this year. It's curious that we are going hard after this OL who has no other offers of note, the Utah transfer DT who didn't play hardly at all and was always injured, the 2-star RB out of Oklahoma with very few offers, etc. These seem more like back-up plans, not early commitments.

I love Frost, but looking at OSU and PSU's recent recruiting classes, it's going to be hard to compete for Big 10 titles without pulling in Top 10-15 level classes.

Yep Luke McCaffrey is a 5.7 3 Star (which is right there with a 5.8 4star) on this site and a 4 star on Huskers 24/7 and a 4 Star QB on ESPN. So averaging that out, might as well say 4 star QB/Athlete. I’ll definitely take him, that name alone has and is known for talented football players.

That could be true or it might be that 4 and 5* guys don't visit on their own dime.

I'm as big of Star Gazer as there is on this board but after yrs of getting 4 stars under Bo and Riley that ended up being 2 stars on the field, I'm letting this staff recruit whomever they want before I make a judgment. If you can't see the potential in Anderson on film and with his frame, I can't help you.

Plus, we're at 8 current commits (two 4 stars); we could still land another ten 4 stars in this class. Once the season gets rolling and we get some of these kids on campus during a game day when memorial stadium is rocking, ALL N. Promise

1) They do
2) Players can take OV’s in the spring now, and the teams currently cleaning it up on the recruiting trail are taking advantage of the rule change.

Except NU has only 1 OV left which is slotted for Watkins

Moos did a lot of good when hired but he should have halted OVs by previous staff until a decision was made...paying for that right now

I’m a star gazer but we need to let these kids play their senior season before rushing to judgement. They may be under the radar before their commitment to Nebraska but they are on the radar now. If their rankings don’t get bumped then we should probably be a bit concerned. The other thing about Frosts offense is that it is a system offense so you recruit to what fits, 5 star or 2 star.

If he had done that, he might as well have just fired the previous staff that day. By my count there were 7 official visitors after Moos was hired and before Frost hired. The current staff used 29 of the visits in December and January.

Ok---those 7 would look pretty good right now

Everyone knew Riley was a dead man walking

Lives in a rural part of LA and has only ever attended one camp...under the radar

Nebraska was tipped off on him by an acquaintance of Held (lead recruiter)

This will be a nice pick up

Who does Ryan Held not know?! As a former Small College Head Coach and Junior College Head Coach this guy had to go the ends of the earth in order to find "Those kind of players". I get the impression Held has such a bright future. This guy, like Frost, just has IT.

Thanks for the info "HuskerLLM" that was really really good stuff!

Just gonna do this with every staff, huh?

"Anyone else worried about the number of guys who seem like reaches?"
"I trust COACH, I don't trust you! You know nothing! COACH ALL THE WAY!!!"

I was as enthusiastic about the Frost hire as anyone, but the national recruiting ranking needs to be Top-10, period, full stop. Teams that don't recruit at an elite level don't win national championships. Try to find an exception, you won't.

I don't expect Top-10 this year, but I do expect improvement. He'll never have more momentum and name recognition than right now coming off an undefeated run. Time to make hay. If Riley proved one thing, it's that NU can be in the running for blue chip kids without being a playoff team.

I agree...it was funny. Thanks for the compliment!

I don't know what everyone is getting so worked up about. They're going out and finding the players they want to fit a system that has been shown to work with moderate to high talent level players (moderate at UCF, moderate to high talent at Oregon). And it's been working at two different universities on opposite sides of the country with very different cultures and players (Oregon and UCF). Please, remind me, what was Marcus Mariotta's star ranking? Mackenzie Milton's?

As to the top 10 classes, I think that comes after a year or two of not only winning, but doing it in style. I expect another top 25 finish this year (just because we're a program that should always do that), but I don't see top 10 classes until 2020-2021 and onward.

What I see right now is a staff desperate to flip the roster and get contributors immediately playing (which explains raiding JUCOs), because they want to get things in place ASAP, because they know it works. The faster we start looking like and playing like a team that can win, the faster the ship gets righted and things like recruiting take care of themselves.

This post is a breath of fresh air! I thought for sure you would hold Frost up on a pedestal.

What I am saying is at least you are consistent with your unhappiness of coaching staffs. I also agree with your complaint. If this was a recruit under Callahan, Bo or Riley, no way would this kid be allowed to accept a scholarship this early in the process.

The thing is, I do think Frost and staff do know what they are doing. I do feel they know what they want and they go after it. This kid may be exactly what they are looking for in an OT, so whatever his star ranking is shouldn't matter.

I am just saying Riley would of been burned at the stake for offering and accepting a commitment of this type early on in the process. It's the double standard thing I don't like, and you Harry Caray are not a double standard guy. I respect the hell out of that!

I have stated this many times on here. If there is a kid that was a 5.4 (2*) and not a kicker that committed to Alabama. He would be boosted up to a 5.8 (4*) when all said and done. If that same kid commits to Nebraska he will end up being a 5,6 (3*)... If he commits to Wyoming he wil end up a 5.4 (2*).

The rating system is an absolute joke, and too much of it is based on who they commit too. I will always base my judgment on how many Power 5 schools offer a kid. If it is 10+ it is a 4* recruit no matter what the sites say IMO. If it is 5-10 offers then that would be a 3*

The trouble with that is not all offers are created equal or reported truthfully.

It's still early. We have seen kids like this blow up, get a ton of offers and end up 4-stars, over and over again. I'm glad we are in early, if we think he is that talented.

It appears that OT Matthew Anderson has committed??? He tweeted out Extremely Blessed #pipeline #GBR #HuskerPower at 2:19 and then Coach Austin tweeted out a Rick Flair gif 5 minutes later???? Is this a confirmed commitment? Anyone know?

Wow that kid has a great frame.
He can still add some quality weight instead of having to get rid of fat.
Need to watch his film, if he has quick feet and aggression i sure hope hes N. the type of size we need

If he’s a 4* then it’s correct and stars matter. If he’s a 3* then the folks don’t know what they’re doing and it’s about heart being coachable, wanting to be N.

Same goes for the saying every National Champion had at least one top ten class so Nebraska needs that too. (stars matter!) Even though we out recruit every B1G West opponent and repeatedly lose to them. (stars don't matter!)

Stars matter except when they don't. Since switching to the East/West divisions Nebraska has been the top recruiting school in the West in 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015 and 2014. That is every year and what do we have to show for it? Jack shit.

Like that old Napoleon Bonaparte quote, "Scott Frost is gonna get some ballers and ball, it's just what he do."

I was thinking the same thing. I hope we are not just reaching for bodies.
