Just wanted to share my experience to anyone that may be looking for a less expensive cell phone option. Finding a reasonable low cost cell phone and plan has been an ongoing quest of mine. Currently with Cricket which gives me solid coverage (ATT network) in my area (No. Indiana), no contract, 2.5 GB high speed data, at $35/mo all in. Ive been very happy with their service - much better than Virgin Mobile or Metro PCS service which I have also tried. However, have not had good luck with my phones at all. Had a cheapo Samsung, a buggy Moto G(3g), and an LG G3 that I picked up supposedly new off Amazon only for it to die on me in 30 days and have LG tell me when I sent it in for repair that it was an unauthorized refurbished phone (Amazon refunded me). Anyway, I have been suffering with a cheapo HTC 510 that worked but was definitely underwhelming and had so little on board memory, it was almost unusable.
Had been limping along with the HTC for about 9 months when I came across reviews for an Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 that Cricket offers for $129. Alcatel has a history of terrible phones, and I frankly didn't pay it much mind at first. But then I read more about it and the reviews were glowing. Specs looked solid for a budget phone (quad core processor, 13mp camera, micro SD slot, solid 5.5 HD screen, good battery life, nearly stock android, etc). The only thing it didn't have that I wanted was a removable battery, but at that price I thought I might as well give it a shot. I'm really glad I did. This phone has blown away my expectations. Popped a 64 GB SD card in it, case and tempered glass screen protector, and was ready to go. Interface is smooth, screen is bright and crisp, no hiccups in performance, and the form factor is fantastic.
So if you are looking for a lower cost option and have been having trouble finding anything, give it a look. I would highly recommend it based on my initial impression. Go ahead and share ITT if you've got a low cost recommendation of your own.
