the NFL can force it on teams if they qualify (will post qualifications in a bit)
Teams that meet the exemptions can refuse and usually do. You can be exempt if you have a first year HC, been in the playoffs one of the last two years or have been on the show in the last 10 years.I thought...because I heard somebody else say it...the team can refuse. If that is wrong then it makes sense why that show is still around.
The great thing about this show is by rule going to be one of the worst teams from the previous year. Every year it seems like the show will suck balls because the team sucks, and every year the show kicks ass. It is highly entertaining peeking behind the curtains on how day to day life is like in the NFL. Every year there is some old superstar battling to go another year. Every year there is some young guy that amazes everyone on how good he is. My favorite year was the Gruden Raiders. Richie Incognito was a likeable guy on the show. Seemed like an actual team leader. It was funny Gruden started off his first meeting about how there will be no hazing with the elephant sitting in the room. It was funny one episode where Richie walked up to a bunch of his lineman teammates and immediately making sure they understood he was mic'd up. He was looking out for them so they didn't make themselves famous for saying something stupid. In a later episode Gruden was talking about the seven man sled and he said to Incognito "I know Callahan had you running one of these at Nebraska". That cracked me up. That was the same year Antonio Brown showed up to training camp with frostbitten feet because he was an idiot in addition to being crazy. I think his CTE creator Vontase Burfict was on that team too. Crazy team and fun to watch.I do not understand...from a teams perspective I mean....why in the hell you'd want to do this. Anyone? Bueller?
Well said. I really enjoy this show as well. There are always some take aways from watching. Richie did come across as a veteran who was just glad to be there and wanting to help others. Gruden and Rams' McVay-- both seem to have the same personalities. There may be some ADHD involved there. The Colts seemed like they had assembled a lot of good dudes- high character guys. But their owner is a weirdo and ultimately Carson Wentz sunk their season. I hate the Cowboys, but I find myself rooting for Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott after watching those two on the show. I lost interest in the Cardinals in-season show last year- JJ Watt is a warrior of course, but wow, not a lot else on that squad in terms of leadership and it showed as they tanked in that season. The great thing about this show is by rule going to be one of the worst teams from the previous year. I agree. I'm a huge Dan Campbell fan after last year. He seems like a pretty cool coach to play for. Unfortunately guys like him seem to have a shorter shelf life in the NFL compared to the CEO types.I will say, I think the show was a positive for the Lions last year. It really endeared a lot of people to them and changed the view from the same old screw up Lions to an up and coming team that has real promise.
I’m a lifelong Lions fan and this is the first time in decades I have been genuinely excited for a coach after year 2. I love that guy so much.I agree. I'm a huge Dan Campbell fan after last year.
