Just had a hernia repaired, am home recovering now.
Any of you gone through this?

What were your experiences with it, and how long was recovery?

i have office duty only starting tomorrow for 10 days.

not sure what yours was, but I had essentially 3 balls for most of my young life because I was too stupid to say anything. Intestine slipped down into scrotum, once i got it fixed I can not believe I went 9 years like that. The recovery took longer than I anticipated but I did what any 22 year old would do, vicodin and pass out repeat.

I had the abdominal hernia taken care of before it happen to get worse before I retired.Doctor thought it was a good idea getting it taken care of before it ruptured…

Wasn’t suppose to lift anything more than 10lbs and was out of work for two weeks..

Take it easy and let it heal properly..

Hiatal hernia here. surgery didn't fix and still deal with it. Recovery for surgery was not fun but I think my type of hernia is far different from yours. Take it easy as surgery is very taxing. Your body naturally heals from trauma if you let it.

3 times for me, so I try not to push myself too hard anymore—not worth it.

Getting it fixed early while the tear is small is better. It can get really large and harder to mesh behind if you let it go too long. Once fixed with the newer laparoscopic process and mesh, you shouldn’t have worry about reoccurrence. Also, the new mesh is a non issue—still commercials out there about the older mesh being a problem. Don’t have to worry about the new stuff and process.

It’s really important to fully heal before lifting anything that’s more than 25 lbs. and take meds on schedule to get the comfort and movement you need during healing—3 - 4 weeks if I remember correctly

The hardest thing for me was not lifting anything that was over 20-25 lbs for 4 weeks I think it was

No big deal just follow instructions. It will be normal to have some twinges later on from scar tissue.

These things you just don't push it to hard. I put off my Umbilical Hernia for a couple years and it wasn't worth it when I look back on it.

They couldn't keep the Belly Button after it was all done, so i don't have one. Told my Ma I Emancipated myself from her. Laughing

Hope this works out well for you.

Had a weird one with a decent-sized abscess behind it, required invasive surgery to repair in December 2011. If it was done laparoscopically, it should be a lot easier.

I had two “sports hernias” (each side) repaired many years ago, before there was a name for them. Bounced back in just a few days, but I was in high school. Everything heals fast when you are that age.

Only advice I would offer is that if there’s an early ice storm, be really careful. Catching yourself after a slip could be pretty painful.

I had one fixed two years ago. Easiest thing ever. Recovery was quick and I hardly took any pain killers afterward. But then I'm old man tough. Can't tell you how many times I would lie down and pop it back in before I finally had the surgery.
