Not sure how many ice fisherman are on the Scrolls but up north it's a pretty avid group of anglers. Anyway I've been wanting to go over to Milwaukee and fish the harbor for big brown trout through the ice, these are really big 25 lb fish are not uncommon. The main way to hook them is with and automatic hooking device on a dead stick rod. The most popular one is called and Automatic Angler and they used to sell for $40 but do to demand are now at $90. Way too much for me to spend for something I'll use very infrequently and you need 2 or 3 of the things to get a spread of rods in different depths. So by accident I cam across a Youtube video of who to build your own for just a few bucks and thought I'd give it a try. I have about $6 in each one, I built 3 and here's a video of the finished product and how it works.
