OT- Home buying in 2 short years

I don't know how any young families can afford a house. I guess that's why multi-family is booming.
I have seen a lot of new builds that have a built in apt/mother in law suite. But with a totally separate entrance and then also a door that leads into the main house.

I guess they are getting a bit more popular.

I'm sure they're cheep. 😬
I could actually use a set up like that.

Blessed to get the rate we did when we moved three years ago. Free is a pretty damn expensive four letter word.
I really hope not many people get involved with an interest rate based on the Prime Rate. They are gonna get hammered beyond submission. I would hope anyone in that situation would try to get a flat rate mortgage before its too late.

So glad I locked in at 3 percent in 2021. Look at those comparisons from 2 short years ago. Good luck with those rates today.
Weren't 2 out of the 3 stimulus checks passed by the previous administration?

Just another example of people claiming to be small government but being ok with big government when they want.

Like I said. Ignore the tweet. Big government sucks and is destroying the middle class. Not a right vs left thing.

I think the way to go is have an additional apartment just built on top of the garage, with utilities and a separate entrance so you don't even know when they're home. Blessed to own my own home, but nowadays they're making it almost impossible to buy a home.

My wife wanted me to buy a home in 1979. Yeah. Interest rates were about 17%. I had to wait till 1984 to get in at an acceptable interest rate. That's when I had to school her a bit about economics.

30 year historic average is 7.74 % . We are around 7.125 now. Still below the historic average, we have just been spoiled by unprecedented low rates in the last decade or so. Reversion to the mean is normal. People will still buy homes albeit at a slower pace than over recent years. Presumably lower demand will eventually pull down prices a bit to offset higher rates.

It helps but roommates suck. You can't walk around straight shirt cocking it. Winnie the Pooh style.😂
One had the basement to himself which was cool and the other was gone a lot. BUT it was cool to just be like "Hey, wanna go grab happy hour" and there was always someone around to go.

This. My dad grew up in a time where he would have killed for today's interest rate. It's all relative.

Yup. Who in their right mind is going to move or buy now? More than double your interest rates? No thanks.
I am moving next week, getting out of Calirodo while the getting is good. If I wasn’t able to pay cash for my new house near Lake McConahay, I definitely would not be moving. Feel sorry for the younger generation. Going to be tough on them owning a home in these circumstances.

Calirodo. That's good. So true. I have lots of family out there.

LOVE LOVE LOVE that state...hate their politics and what they've dun there BUT...My in laws bought a large piece of commercial property in Boulder about 30 years ago, one of the best corners in that town...they sold it recently...Do I have to tell you how much they banked on that deal? I honestly have a hard time wrapping my brain around it....Insane what prices have dun there...

They paid cash for their now very expensive home in Broomfield with some of that money...which has already doubled in value. I don't get it.....who can afford to live there now-a days?

I can’t afford it anymore, they just doubled my home owner taxes from last year to this year. Getting pretty insane out here.

Every time they come here to visit they threaten to move here....they are blown away at how affordable our housing is....for them though, no way the outlive their money so I have my doubts it will really happen.

And people wonder why i won't move out of Lincoln right now...

Before someone turns me in for being political I'll do it myself. @sklarbodds I'm self reporting. Not political. Just talking home interest rates. Don't ban me.😰
Since you self reported, we'll not ban and just use this as an example of what not to do.

You can't create a post with a tweet saying, "SEE LIBERALS SUCK LOOK AT INTEREST RATES" then say, "It's not political".

If you want to talk about interest rates, create a post highlighting interest rates without any sort of political commentary. It's actually not hard.

Here's an example.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can you believe the current interest rates right now?

2021 2.96% 30 year fixed mortgage
Loan Amount: $399,999
Total interest paid: $204,181
Total cost of the loan: $604,180

2023 7.7% 30 year fixed mortgage
Loan Amount: $399,999
Total interest paid: $627,530
Total cost of the loan: $1,027,529

Unreal.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

See? That wasn't too hard and here I'm discussing the interest rates without mentioning a party, a candidate, a political ideal, etc.

Feel free to create a new post void of political speech.
