This is about how accessible presidential candidates are in New Hampshire.
My wife and I got invited to a friend's house. There were about 12 of us there to meet with Rand Paul to talk primarily if not exclusively about health care.
I ended up getting to ask him several questions:
- After he gave credit to Obamacare for increasing access albeit at the trade-off of enormous cost increases, I asked him why he would speak well of the access issue when the ACA is driving a lot of healthcare providers to retire and will discourage the best from becoming healthcare providers in the future.
- Asked him if it was true that the ACA created a perverse incentive for American employers to hire illegal immigrants since they are not required to be insured.
- Asked him his position on the 2% medical device tax.
- Asked him why Mitch is so nice to Harry and why he doesn't just invoke his own version of the nuclear option to get things past a Democrat filibuster.
- Complimented him on his defense of the 4th Amendment.
He gave really thoughtful and complete answers. For a political junkie, this was outrageous fun for me.
Then someone said, that's Elizabeth's dad, the one who asked you that question about sanctions on Iran this morning.
I hadn't heard about that and was told Elizabeth asked him how he could square his positions on free trade being the best way to prevent war between nations and his support for sanctions on Iran.
Fun times.
