Just finished up the last of my Elk on some backstrap fajitas...so good.
Try to go once every two years and fill the freezer. Heading out again this October. Going to the same 50,000 acre ranch along the Colorado, New Mexico border where I took a great elk two years ago (posted pics in this thread https://nebraska.forums.rivals.com/...cs-for-those-interested….159855/#post-3053338)
Interested to know if any fellow scrollers are heading out on a archery/rifle hunt, and where.
On a sidenote, if anyone needs some new hunting swag, I’ve got a great discount code for Sitka gear. I receive it dude to my lifetime membership in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. If you’re not familiar with Sitka, they make some great albeit somewhat expensive gear. This coupon code gives you 40% off anything in their online store, which actually makes their gear quite reasonable, considering it’s quality. If anyone’s interested in the discount code, PM me.
Personally don’t need any new gear, but only four uses of the code is allowed, so first come first serve.

Edit:
A bit overdue, but got to wondering how others hunts went, so thought I’d post some pics from last months hunt. Anyone else get an elk this year? Share pics if you got them. Would love to see them.
Turned out to be an epic hunt. Absolutely awesome weather and beautiful scenery as usual. Saw a ton of elk as well as black bear, a mountain lion, porcupine, red fox, and several bald eagle. Saw the biggest red fox I’ve ever seen attack and killed a skunk without even getting sprayed (sorry skunkman). Not sure how he manage that. Aspen leaves were absolutely stunning this year, brightest yellow I can ever remember seeing, and lasting much later in the year than usual. I have been told that they have been holding their leaves with much more vivid color due to this years drought.
This property is absolutely amazing. 65,000 acres, which equates to over 100 square miles, and only 9 hunters. Ended up taking a nice 6x6 on my fourth day of hunting after turning down a couple smaller/younger bulls. Took him in the same area of the ranch I took my elk two years ago (Cathedral Canyon). On the fourth morning of hunting, was traversing a trail about 200 feet above a large meadow when we spotted him about 350+ yards out. Took a prone position using my backpack as a rest, adjusted my aim down a couple inches for the angle/elevation, and sent the shot. Thought I’d missed him at first as he barely reacted. He took 10 to 15 steps and fell over dead. My shot had found its mark. Managed to take out both lungs.
You know the property is a large when you’re drive from the front ranch gate to the upper camp takes almost an hour. The drive is like driving through a completely deserted national Park. A couple rivers, numerous streams as well as a 100+ foot waterfall.
The off-grid upper camp main lodge
My guide Balthasar (went by Balt)
My elk. A good size 6x6
The colors were as vivid as I can ever remember them, especially for this late in the season.
150+ foot waterfall, a few mile hike from the upper camp.
Headed to the processor.
Refilled the chest freezer with 300+ pounds off fresh elk meat.
On a sidenote, the day before I left for the hunt, saw this guy rummaging around our Pagosa Springs property. No doubt trying to scrounge up a few last marshals before heading to his den for the winter.
