OT Dan Hawkins new OC at FIU

He joins Butch Davis' staff. Darn, I was looking forward to having him move up at ESPN and announce more of our games.

Many were anti-hawk on the game call. I thought he was generally enthusiastic and positive about NU and was informative about the offensive side of the game.

Other than money, I can't think of a single reason why Butch Davis should be at FIU, so then the next logical conclusion is that Butch Davis is horrible with money because he shouldn't have ever needed another dime after all he's made.

Same reason mult-millionaires want to be president and senators. I assume once you get addicted to the limelight and people hanging on your every word, going fishin doesn't cut it. You have to look no further than Bo Pelini. Assuming he didn't go crazy spending in retirement, there is no reason he would have ever had to work another day in his life.

limelight or not, guys who coach love to coach. Add in the fact that both guys were fired from previous jobs and they want to prove they are better coaches than their last jobs would indicate. Then factor in the need for the "fight" that you simply don't get broadcasting a game. The going rate to be the OC at FIU is probably a reduction in pay for Hawkins. He went from working for 5 months a year at ESPN to some extremely long hours turning around an FIU program.

I agree with you, although he was pretty convinced that 80% of the plays we ran were run-pass options.
