Heard on 1620 that he is a finalist for Drake and possibly Miami of Ohio. Can't find anything about Miami of Ohio on twitter or on the net.

Is the Mo Valley or MAC really enough of a step up from the Summit to leave? Unless the USD roster is going to lose a bunch, I think I ride it out there and wait for a A-10 or American Conference job. Just my opinion.

Conference RPI rankings this year. Kind of surprised that Mo. Valley was ahead of MAC.

Summitt-19th
MAC- 14th
Mo Valley- 12th

All 3 were one bid conferences this year.

Looks like he only had one senior this year. Maybe he thinks SDSU will be tough to beat out the next two years?

I could see going to Miami of Ohio. Close to Indiana and Kentucky. If he has success there, he could get on the radar of a lot of bigger schools. Not sure I'd want that Drake job.

Yes. Summit is bottom barrel

just not seeing how going to Drake is going to advance his career anymore than staying at USD. Maybe Miami Ohio would be a step up. But If Nebraska is a 7 year project, what is Drake?

It could advance his career if he could turn around a bad Drake program and compete in top half of MVC ( Winning records). A lot of good mid major basketball programs in the MVC.

As long as Marshall is in town you won't be competing with Wichy, but there is still better competition in MVC than Summit, hands down.

Drake has had about three or four winning seasons since 1987. Keno showed it was possible, figuring out a way to win 28 games and go to the NCAA tournament in 2007. Now he's moved on to the MAC and doing a decent job with Central Michigan.

You win at Drake, you can coach.

If you say so. Where is Keno now? He was fired from Providence a few years ago. Now he is struggling a Central Michigan. So that would sort of debunk your last line.

If you lose at Drake you go to the never to be heard from again pile.

2-3 years with a good coach...just like every other team in the world other than nebraska, where it takes multiple full recruiting cycles.

Well Keno took over a Central program that hadn't had anything better than a 15-15 season in over 10 years, and took them to the NIT with 23 wins along with a conference title. So he couldn't win at Providence in the old bruising Big East, but he can still coach up the mid majors.

And if course if Craig goes to Drake and loses he is probably in the never heard of again pile, or Tim Miles assistant wherever he ends up.

But I think all of this is a moot point, I think Drake chooses Rutter or DeVries.

Drake is in Des Moines? USD is in Vermillion SD......I would assume the pay would be appreciably better at Drake as well. After all Marshall is making over 3M at Wichita State. I would guess Smith is making around 200k at USD.

Dang sorry there Tom, didn't mean to touch a nerve by being honest about your son. He coached one year at Drake, had 2 losing seasons out of 3 at Providence and is trending downward at Central Michigan.

Lol chill out. You must be a blast to have a beer with if you can't have a talk about a basketball coach without thinking you're "touching a nerve".

The money would be better at Drake, but Wichita State is on a different planet that the rest of the Missouri Valley. There are several Mo Valley jobs that would be a big step up from USD, but Drake isn't one of them.

Rumor is that Wichita St is looking to get out of the MVC. If they leave, that makes Drake look even worse.
