VJ's stint as Broncos head coach was very unsuccessful and wasn't that long ago. I guess the question floating through my head is what would be the reaction in Husker world if Rhule had brought back a guy like Mike Riley to be on his staff.

Wouldn't have been my first choice, but I suspect he will do fine. In Denver, it's not the defensive side of the ball that's an unwatchable shit show.

He’s probably got some player support and Payton thought he was the best available. Payton has shown that he doesn’t really care what anybody else thinks.

Mike Riley would probably be a good assistant coach. Just not a good head coach.

I would absolutely hate it if Mike Riley was anywhere near the program, but nobody balked at Fred bringing Doc Sadler back on his staff so there is that.

Its more akin to Fred Hoiberg bringing back Doc. Although Doc was far more successful than VJ.

According to my Denver born and bred cousin who is a crazy Bronco fan he and many of his fellow Bronco fans were hoping for Rex Ryan to be the DC. He cites Joeseph's time as Denver's head coach and Arizona's lackluster defense and reasons to be underwhelmed.
