I have a friend who works in administration at Iowa State and even though did not go to the conference meetings he was in on the briefing meeting within the Iowa State Ath. Dept. for people who needed to be in the know. I know some of us like to still keep track on the Big 12 so I thought I'd pass along some bullet points that he txtd me that were discussed which I found interesting. Please excuse the typos since this was sent via txt message.

1. Baker Mayfielf transfer situation. Talked about how messed the situation was with his transfer to Oklahoma. Basically nobody but OU was in favor of it but nobody wanted to be the dick about it so Texas and Tech voted for it thinking everyone else would vote against it and it was a tie and went to the board of directors, which is Boren,so it passed. So now a walk on can transfer within the conference with no penalty of losing that year, but still must sit out. This won't really effect football or basketball much but will effect softball, baseball, track and soccer. Apparently this was a very heated discussion by the ADs. He also said that Texas' vote was the one that tied the vote and sent it to the board.

2. Baylor. They will get lack of institutional control which will likely have a loss of scholarships and post season ban which will likely start this season. Also will get hammered by the federal government which will likely be large fines

3. Expansion. The AD's don't want to expand with any of the current options. The presidents were in favor of expansion but then got on board with no expansion at this time with looking to expand in 5-7 years when the TV deal is up and try to poach actually good schools. Their thought in expansion is that there are 3 teams that don't want to be in the pac 12 anymore. Can't get them now but can work them into the next TV deal as we are already making 6 mil more than them and can expand that even more. That would be Colorado and the 2 Arizona teams.

4. Football Divisions. They don't want to screw up what has been so good with basketball and the double round Robin and need to get football settled in. There will be 2 divisions for football with a few different options on determining them. One option is to do a lottery system and try to make it a big deal on ESPN like the NBA draft but not likely because you never know what you'll end up with. The other, more likely option, would be determined by how the teams finish in the ranking so it will be a 2 year division of 1,3,5,7,9 against 2,4,6,8,10. Play the other division games first 5 weeks and inner division last 5 weeks with a bye.

5. Playoff expansion. There has been no discussion by any league to expand the playoff to 8 teams.

If anyone has any questions they'd like me to ask him please let me know. I'll be happy to ask him. I found all of this very interesting and thought I would pass it along.
