OT-BBQ grills?

They are all getting ridiculously priced.

I was given an Oklahoma Joe Longhorn for Father's Day - its a combo, gas, charcoal with an offset smoker and gas side burner.

I really don't use the gas side much, except to sear or reverse sear, I use the side burner for that.

I think they paid about $400 for it 5 or 6 years ago, it now retails for $650.

I have a Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560. charcoal, gives you control like a pellet smoker, but with charcoal flavor and ability to go up to 700 degrees for searing etc.
Its not perfect as the quality is somewhat sus but I like mine. Just wish i had got a bigger one. mine was 500, and i think the price ranges from 500 to 800 or so for the biggest one.
Worth looking into at least depending on what you want to do.
I was never into grilling/smoking before I got this. Was a game changer for me.

What do you all have? Any suggestions? What's a quality one for a decent price?
What tuco said, especially if you want the ability to change up flavors.

That said, if you are really pinched on budget but desire a little smoke flavor with a gas grill, you can get your favorite wood chips, put them in some foil on your top grill rack, slightly opened and cover the grill when warming up and cover again during your cooking time. Definitely imparts that flavor.

Iny experience that is what is funny with bbq grills. The Weber kettle I have found the best way to not only grill with a nice sear but impart great flavor when smoking. And it's my cheapest grill I have.

I have a simple Weber two burner gas grill. I used to have a Weber Smokey Joe when I was in college with lots of free time. These days, I rarely grill, but when I do I want to just fire it up and go. There's work arounds to add smoke, as some have pointed out, ITT.

Agree on cheap kettle grills; very useful. Having said that I recently bought a PitBoss Competition smoker and love it. Get it around 225 to 240 degrees and it's a smoker. Run it above 250 and its a grill. It's a pellet smoker that can run up to 1000 degrees for searing. Two built-in meat probes. The app lets you set the internal meat temp and keep it there on a timer that will shut it off when you specify by either time or temp. The app needs some work, but overall like it.

I've owned a lot of different set ups over the years. The weber kettle, as mentioned above, is a cheap way to put out good food. The Traeger pellet grill is good for a number of things with solid results, but there are better smokers and better ways to cook a steak.

This isnt practical, but a lot of fun if you are entertaining when the weather is nice.

For a cheap way to get into smoking check out the master built electric. Almost idiot proof. Almost.

I have a pit barrel with a husker bottler opener...they must have got in trouble for it, cause they don't sell the bottle opener anymore.

I had a Master Built electric cabinet smoker and had to get rid of it. Couldn't get to or hold temp in the Fall, Winter or early Spring. The elements worked, it just wasn't enough. Now that was about 10 years ago so that may have changed.

That is a sweet grill. My buddy has it.

Gas: Napoleon
Charcoal: Weber kettle
Pellet: Recteq

All 3 have different purposes/what they’re good at. Want to grill? Charcoal tastes the best. Get a kettle. Don’t have 30 mins to build the fire? Don’t want the mess? Get a gas grill. Napoleon makes a killer grill. Pellet “grills” are not grills. They’re smokers/ovens. The recteq is one of the best. Blows traeger out of the water.

I'm a simple Weber kettle guy, just like my dad. It brings back great memories whenever I use it.
Same. I have a couple of 22” Weber kettles and a Weber Spirit with 3 burners that I dont use much. The kettle, with the right setups, is very versatile. I have a rotisserie and pizza oven setup, vortex and a grill and sear.

For anyone starting out, grab one off Marketplace for $50 and learn how to use it. Get a good charcoal chimney too, a fairly big one. Lastly, buy good charcoal. Not Walmart and not regular Kingsford which smokes like crazy and is full if fillers. Use lump, B&B or Kingsford competition.

Ive been looking for a Weber Ranch kettle for a long time now. One finally showed up locally online, but for $800. 😩

Green mountain grill- pellet grill. Use it for big cuts of meat to smoke and shred. I cook steaks and chicken on it as well but I find you need to get it extremely hot to get a grill burn otherwise it acts more like an oven. 475-500 degrees. I’ve went to a blackstone for dogs and burgers.

Chicken in the air fryer is amazing...

and if you have a griddle...grab a discounted rotisserie chicken...pull it apart...toss it on the griddle and make chicken philly cheesesteaks
yes I have a Blackstone griddle, you just can’t get the flavor of a weber in an air fryer, but I love my air fryer. I will have to try that cheesesteak recipe sounds good and easy.

Not needing a bbq grill when I can jump in the car and be at any of these places in 30 minutes or less….

I'm in AZ, so it maybe a "thing" I haven't experienced.

Lot of weber kettle suggestions, but here is a really good legit comparison to the kamada Joe and a weber kettle. Also like to mention ceramic hold temp so much better

I will never buy a grill again. It is all about the griddle for me.

And an air fryer.
I love the griddle, as I have one for searing. I would highly recommend one too, but you are getting rid of a lot of variety of meats on a griddle alone, ones that that are my staples. You want to get the flavor of smoke wood you need a smoker too. I love my griddle, but it can't do everything like my Kamado

Pork Butt
Brisket
Whole Chicken
Turkey
Pork Ribs
Prime Rib

I have a green egg and love it. But if the Weber is set up right you can kick just as good as good out again at a fraction of the cost. And when just grilling I always go with the kettle

Not in cold weather, and a Ceramic Kamado can hold a temp for 12-24 hours without adding any wood. Weber can not do that

No argument there. Up front sticker shock is a deterrent. I can buy a lot of steaks (and another bag of charcoal in January) with the $1500 i didnt spend on a Green Egg.

The weber kettle is a nod to my dad who was the original 1970s grill master who showed me the way.

I got my Kamado Joe Classic for $650 Summer Close Out at Lowes. You can find one for $799 in many places on a regular basis... Home Depot

I don't like taking mine above 425. It never seems to act right above that temp. I've had mine for a about 6 years, it's been great.

Made the same move to blackstone for burgers.

lmao...don't know whether to bust your balls for bragging on some very average BBQ joints or for thinking BBQ and grilling are the same thing

I don't get the comparison at all. Weber's answer to ceramic cookers is the Summit Kamado which has similar functionality and features as a Green Egg, Kamado Joe, etc and is comparably priced at $1,250 - $2,150. The Weber Kettle isn't really in the same category. Like not even close. It's a great little inexpensive charcoal grill for around $200, but that's pretty much it.
