OT - Anyone have the Galaxy S6? Like it? Hate it?

I have the S6 Edge; absolutely love the phone, hate the Edge. Get the S6, not the S6 Edge.

Thinking about upgrading from a Galaxy S3 to the S6 myself.

My mom just got an S6 a month ago and loves it, but she doesn't use it for anything but Facebook and calling my sister.

I have played around with it and it is definitely faster than my S3. There's no SD card slot, but with 32 or 64GB, that's not an issue for most.
The battery cannot be removed, and is smaller, but at the Touchwiz uses less power to run. There is however a super power save mode is awesome when your battery is almost dead.

The best thing about the phone is probably the speed. I am on the fence myself about upgrading.

I've got an S3 too. Had an HTC before it and honestly liked that better. I'll likely check out what HTC has out at the moment whenever I decide to shop.

I have and s4, and am looking at an s6. Did I see correctly that the new iPhone has Google Now?

Not a fan of the S6. Mine is somewhat slow when using the home button to go back to the home screen. Was told that the camera pops up very quickly but that is not the case. Had the Note II before and wish I had it back.

No microSD = deal breaker, no better than apple now

Opinion why on this? What can you possibly have on your phone that takes up 64GB or 128GB? At first I thought this would be issue, but not having a microsd card isn't an issue.

Two things, get a Task Killer and close apps regularly.

Try changing the animation speed in the phone to .5. To do this
1. Go to Settings, scroll down to About Device. Tap on About Device 10 times. This will enable Developer Mode.
2. In Settings open Developer Options.
3. Change Window Animation Scale, Transition Animation Scale and Animator Duration to 0.5x

If it's significantly cheaper to opt for the Galaxy S5, go with that instead. Had the S5 and switched to the S6 when I had to change carriers. They're basically the same phone. All features and functions are the same. If there is any difference, it's so minimal that it easily goes unnoticed. With that said, both are quality phones. I will never venture outside of the Samsung Galaxy series as long as they keep making phones.

Heh, not busting on you at all - I work in IT and that quote reminds me of the old joke, "why would we EVER need more than 64K memory???"

My music collection is at least 30G, tons of photographs as well. I also use my Galaxy 4 to film my 2 daughters volleyball games, the HD recording is pretty nice. Depending on how many games they each play, my microSD card can get filled up in a hurry. My wife's 16G iPad is pretty much worthless due to lack of additional disk space.

Plus its just a principle thing for me, Apple will charge you $100 to go from a 16G to a 32G model or 32G to 64G model, when we all know that actually costs about $5 in parts. Fine, they can charge whatever people are willing to pay, I'm just not doing it. I'd rather pay $20 and get a 64G expansion of my own on top of the base memory. The 128G cards are really coming down in price, they are like $40.

Gotcha. Makes perfect sense, especially your last comment about charging $100 for extra storage. That was one of my biggest gripes against Apple and now Samsung fell into it.

I'm just a minimalist on phone storage after one lost phone. Photos and videos are automatically uploaded to Dropbox and Drive and I clean larger files often from my phone. I keep my songs to a minimum and use streaming services or my workout playlist. So now a smaller storage phone is sufficient. The less permanent stuff (music, pics, vids) on my phone the better.

I have the S6 and love it, no issues here. I got it when it first came out in the spring.

Wondering why you guys don't like the edge?

I've had an iPhone for a long time, and I don't dislike them, but I've been thinking about trying a rotation out with a non iOS phone. I'll have to look at some of the options in this thread, HTO's HTC recommendation is noted.

I talked to someone who worked at cellular shop - they've actually had to take a fair number of S6's back due to overheating issues.

That being said, about two weeks ago my carrier paid me $75 to take a new LG G4 as long as I committed to a new 2-year plan.

My biggest gripe with it at first was I hated the default colour scheme, but found out how to load alternate themes, and it's much better looking now (I was an Apple guy and Blackberry guy before that so the Android customization was new to me).

The only issue I have left is I'm still getting used to the power and volume buttons being on the back. I'm sure my muscle memory will eventually develop so it becomes normal, but for now it's still awkward.

Other than that, camera and video are great. Big screen is great. And having an SD Card for expanded memory was huge. It was one of few options that actually had that capability.

Best of luck, Matthew.

IS there really a benefit to killing apps? http://android.nextapp.com/site/systempanel/doc/autokill

As previously discussed in the Task Mangement Section, the Android operating system knows how to manage memory. It automatically loads processes into memory and unloads them as required. Android will strive to always use as much of your device's memory as possible, and this is a good thing: empty memory is wasted memory. Do not be concerned if your device does not show much memory available. If the application you are using requires more memory, other (background) applications will automatically be removed from memory.

I've actually heard some complaints about Samsung memory management and part of that stems from being overaggressive with killing apps: http://www.extremetech.com/computing/204489-poor-ram-management-dogs-samsung-galaxy-s6-s6-edge

I have an older Samsung device and haven't played with the S6 (nor the S3, for that matter). However, my impression is that for all the power and specs, Samsung saddles itself with a software weakness. It makes it hard for me to entertain the idea of springing for one in the future.

Hear really good things about the Nexus 6P and 5X. Those have the benefit of being Google devices free of potentially garbage 3rd party software "features".

Sensitivity to screen edge. When I'm holding it and there are buttons or clickable items close to the edge, it wraps into the area where my hand is holding it.

Also I had issues with the Q and P key wrapping to the edge and it was hard to long press to get to the 1 or 9. I've switched keyboards and it fixed this issue, except now I can get the % or ).

Currently looking to upgrade from the Droid Max. Thanks.
i have it. had it for about a month now. love it. funny thing, i'm a Mac person, have all Macs at home. but my husband likes his iPhone and I love my Samsung S6.
i compared the two, but kept with the Samsung. So we feel we have the best of both worlds.
