COX over to Century Link ? And how to you like it so far.

I'm thinking of making the switch after forever being with COX... They keep upping their prices constantly.

I switched to CenturyLink from Cox about a year and a half ago. No issues. Everyone has the same though, raising prices every now and again.

The big advantage of CenturyLink to me at least in NW Omaha, is that the entire system is fiber. So while I pay the same amount that pretty much everyone else in Omaha is paying, the amount of bandwidth I'm getting is better for the dollar, and the cable never goes out.

I was at my grandparents house for Mother's Day during the down pour and their satellite TV went out. I understand that experiences on this vary, but unless you identify a major "must have" in the programming lineups in one company over another, there's not really a terrible choice. I never had problems with Cox myself they just couldn't match CL speeds.

Got rid of cable completely years ago. Best move ever. Still watch the sports and shows I want online, and don't pay $100+ a month for crappy service.

I did the same thing. Just have internet and stream everything. It's great.

I've heard from people that have directTV that during storms or heavy rain their cable goes out from time to time.

Century Link giving me a good deal, Realize prices go up but seems like COX goes up more and more every year.

Explain how you watch all the live sporting events NFL, CFB, MLB, NBA online for less than $100 / month?

When is the last time your insurance or TV or cell phone bill went down instead of up? Everything goes up, and the only way it ever goes down is with less coverage or options or product. Everyone raises their rates no matter how great of a year they had the year before. If you're looking for a cable company that won't do that, and you find it, let me know.

Direct TV customer here, yes the channel will go out once in a while in storms, but it's pretty infrequent and wouldn't keep me from getting it again. At the time I made the switch, it was so much cheaper than Cox, I was more than happy to make that trade off.

I switch from Cox to CL over a year ago. I pay a little more than half I did for Cox and have had zero issues or loss of service. My internet is the same speed and cable never goes out. I like it. I may even add HBO again. I am super cheap.

Have stated too many times on pay board ( those days gone for awhile ) that Prism with CL is great. Again now have 20 M internet. 36 premium channels. Way more sports. Savings great. No premiums with Cox and now pay far less for far more. Have always had CL ( USWest -Qwest-NWB ) phone service and internet.

There our many support groups throught the US including a big one in the Phone Company Bldg @ 110 So. 19th in Omaha.

Fiber Optic Internet and Video blows cable away.

Retired Phoneman 36 years Mrs retired PhoneCo as well so keep that in mind as well as I never had any problems with Cox, Just not as good.

Pretty much this.

So, explain in 250 characters or less exactly HOW you can QUICKLY access the NBA playoffs, Husker Baseball and 3 MLB games I had on last evening? For less than $100/mo.?
Here, I'll tell you what I do: I pick up the remote and push a button or two until they are all in my "recents." I then enjoy my evening which costs me about $5/day with Prism on CL. You all have a jobs, right? Quit cheapskating and just enjoy the wonderful entertainment options we have to choose from in this country. You'll also be contributing to another individual keeping THEIR job for awhile. OR you can pull out your laptop, search for all 5 streams, ignore the porn ads, and try to enjoy low res action that may cut out before game's end. All while taking away your ability to conduct work activities on the laptop. If you can't work & earn the $5 daily cost on your laptop while watching a 3-hour baseball game on TV, you all need to go back to school.

That's funny right there. I wasn't even going to acknowledge him, I could tell from the tone of his post, he's not open to debate... His mind is made up. All I know is I next to never have any of the issues he claiming occur from streaming, it takes about as long as it takes to go to bookmarks to get to the sites I'm looking for (probably about the same amount of time it takes to go get a remote and find channel your looking for). I don't work at the same time as streaming sports and other shows, so that's a non issue for me. And finally to top it off... I'm $100+ richer a month. Perhaps he should go back to school.

I can afford my cable bill just fine, thank you very much. I suppose I could also afford to drive an 8-passenger SUV and install a swimming pool, but I wouldn't use them enough to justify it. Cable is a bargain if you really want to plop your ass in front of the TV every evening and explore all the channels, but I don't. That's why I'm always interested in alternatives.

So if the discussion of those alternatives makes you feel superior to all the undereducated slugs who may not feel they get enough use from their cable TV to justify the bill, I guess you can consider it a bonus.

I look forward to the day when ESPN and Fox Sports decide to stream on their own without the necessity of tying it to a cable tv account. I suspect they are watching the success rate of WWE, HBO, Netflix and Hulu to see if it is worth it in the end. The minute that happens, I suspect the sound of scissors going through cable will be heard throughout the nation.

I've always been of the mind that most of our entertainment will be delivered via streaming video. While many of us may enjoy the movie theater experience, the fact that many of us can have a HD picture on a rather big screen at a cheaper rate with our own bathroom and popcorn that doesn't cost 3x the cost of the movie ticket itself may also be the death knell of the movies theater as well. Or, at least hurt it quite a bit.

SlingTV is the way to go if you have fast internet, $20 a month, $5 more for their sports package. I hope BTN jumps on there and gets in the sports package, then i'd be set, until then I borrow my brother's BTN streaming.

Base Package: ESPN, ESPN2, AMC, Food Network, A&E, History, TNT, HGTV, IFC, Disney, TBS, Travel, Cartoon Network/Adult Swim, abc family, some channels i dont watch.

Sports Package $5 more: ESPNEWS, ESPNU, secnetwork, ESPN Bases Loaded, ESPN Buzzer Beater, ESPN Goal Lline

Used to Pay $120 a month for internet and TV, now just $65.

I don't have the fastest speed internet still debating what I should do taking into consideration of switching over digging a slight hole in my yard and new hookups on the side of the house.

I would never go through cox and no way in hell I'm paying big dollars per month for internet. Major rip off and these companies are laughing all the way to ......

Switched to DTV from Cox 1 1/2 years ago and will never go back to cable. Yes, during a storm our service has been interrupted three times so far in almost 18 months, no longer than 10 minutes. Doesn't matter, very happy DTV customer.

Have had Cox, DTV, and now CL. Loved DTV until the intro pricing ran out and was paying full rate. Were not willing to match the CL pricing until after I switched and then offered me the new customer pricing again. Century Link is better than what I expected. Picture Quality is good but not as good as DTV. Took a couple visits from CL to get the bonded pairs working correctly but has been good with no pixelation.

Combo DTV and Uverse internet for me. Very happy with Uverse, internet has never once gone out on me. DTV is a hassle with their pricing structure IMO. I threaten to quit every so often and they give me free stuff.

Nice thing about DTV is you can suspend it. So I suspended it after the Super Bowl then turned it back on for Spring Game and NBA/NHL playoffs. Once the Blackhawks are done I will suspend it again until football season.

I had to give up U-Verse when I moved back to Nebraska. Fully jealous. If they ever come here, bye-bye Cox.

Correction: SHE got walloped up & down and came back for more...was that your wife or mom, anger? Oh, and get a job so you guys can pay your cable bill.
You're a chick? My bad. And that $100/month I'm saving by not having 300+ channels with the equivalent entertainment value of watching basket weaving keeps my road tripping, boating, and beer habits going. Maybe you should get off the couch? Actual real life is pretty cool.

Point, St. Anger. There's nothing cool about getting bent over by the cable company. Stop overpaying, then take that extra $50 a month and invest it if you're such a wonder of financial advice.

I pay about $40-50 for the DTV package that ensures I have BTN and the channels I need when the Blackhawks are playing on some goofy crap like NBC Sports Network last night. I have a list of credits that is just confusingly long because I tell them very clearly I'm not paying $80 a month for their service because that's stupid and I'll cancel unless they lower my cost. Hence my free NFL Sunday ticket every year, free HBO, Showtime and Cinemax, and "customer satisfaction" discounts all over my bill.
