My wife and I are going back to Hawaii this summer. This time instead of taking the rushed tour of all the Pearl Harbor related sites, we're taking our time to really soak each site in, read all there is to read, see and reflect on what all is there.
Any other Pearl Harbor buffs? I've been reading Gordon Prange's classic "At Dawn We Slept." In the interest of balanced perspectives, I also read John Toland's "Infamy" and Walter Lord's "Day of Infamy." I've started "Sunday in Hell" which I figure to finish sometime in the next two decades, given how massive a volume it is. Also "Day of Deceit" -- again for different perspectives. Here's a cool thing -- you can download the ENTIRE Senate Pearl Harbor Inquiry hearings, which is kind of fun if you are into reading context and footnotes from the other books.
There's quite a bit of evidence for almost all arguments about who is to blame. When I was at Pearl Harbor two years ago I spoke with someone there who expressed doubts about the Gordon Prange version which, by most accounts, is considered the most credible. I am still weighing the evidence as I read.
Anybody else have insights, thoughts and/or additional credible sources for information? I'm on spring break.
