I read the coach/player interviews after the game and sifted through the Oregon message board linked. Except for the Oregon coach's statement "not to take anything from Nebraska, but...excuse, excuse, excuse...." I did not see one mention of the game being lost due to Nebraska winning it. It was all excuses about coaching officiating, injury, etc. It seems to me that even though the Ducks have had some success in the last 10-15 years they have not been there long enough to bother to take a couple seconds to give the winning team some props.

I may remember the story incorrectly, but as I recall, when Notre Dame snapped Oklahoma's crazy winning streak in the 1950s Bud Wilkinson merely said that the better team had won. Every losing team in a close game can look at things that didn't go their way, but with a few exceptions, those things tend to even out. I won't be too hard on Oregon, by all accounts their head coach is a class act and the tribute for Sam Foltz was fantastic. Furthermore my wife grew up in Oregon and is a life long Oregon fan, so it doesn't feel right to dislike them. Be that as it may, I will respect the hell out of the next close game losing coach who says something to the effect of "the better team won."

We could have played much better. They could have played much smarter.

Either way, this win was huge for their confidence. It is been a long long time where we have felt any momentum going into league play. These kids are under insane pressure from the fans and they don't have the players to learn under and success that we had in the 70s-90s that it is just going to be a huge hurdle to handle that pressure and learn to thrive in it. I guess what I am trying to say, is that ever since 2004 (and earlier?), we played the big games not to lose. If we can change that, we are golden.

I did see a lot of things to fix that can be fixed (you can't fix talent/speed/etc) and I hope the players now believe in their abilities more and address these issues.

It's not a big deal. I don't feel like we need some sort of validation from Oregon fans either. From their perspective, they beat themselves. For the most part, that is true of just about every game. The team that doesn't beat themselves wins. We aren't any different. They are calling to fire their HC and DC and on and on.. it's the same menu on our boards after a tough loss.

Agreed. Can we stop this need to constant HJ's when the Huskers win a game.

Any Oregon fan that wishes to complain about some really ill timed bogus penalties and the ridiculous decision(s) to go for two all day has a legit beef. NO fan base in the country would just keep that to themselves, but Oregon had complete control over one of those variables, the one that actually cost them the game, the one you can do the math on your fingers, then when you're done you can extend the middle one to their H.C. for trying to be to cute.

Just curious exactly which flags you would say were bogus? They may have been stupid penalties and the count may have been somewhat lopsided, but I didn't see a single questionable flag. Sometimes, one side just commits a lot more penalties.

I think it's more common to see a Steve Spurrier type response, "they're just too good for us," after a total beatdown. When the scores close and there's lots of penalties it's natural to complain. Let em have their whine.

PI flag, horrible call that converted a 3rd down didn't it? Or made it 3rd and much shorter and a do-over.

Not standing over the ball and letting Oregon substitute, though somebody said they thought UO had a chance and blew it, I didn't see it that way. Those two come to mind.

We won the game outright and don't want to cheapen it with the refs blowing a few calls. It was worth a sentence or two, nothing more, and I get why Duck fans would be upset about some of that stuff, but we won and we deserved it. Converting on 4th down late, stopping their offense when we had to, holding them to no receiving TD's for the first time since the Model T was invented, their ridiculous decision(s) to keep playing for two, just waaaay to many plays we converted not to feel like we won the game outright, and deserved it.

Bottom Line: Both teams need to get better on both sides of the ball, always room for improvement. Huskers really need to get momentum and smack Northwestern this week, no steps backwards.

The PAC12 refs obviously saw something on those penalties. Spectators (TV or in the stands) don't see everything. Unless I see a replay that clearly shows no penalty, I'm OK with it. That said, if the shoe were on the other foot, we'd probably be pissed too. So I get it.

No kidding...we would me MELTING DOWN if that had been the case.

There were bad called penalties both ways. How about the non-call delay of game an awarding them a TO. They should have never been awarded a TO, it was called after the delay of game. They went on to score on that drive. The TO was a huge MO swing

Husker football will always be #1 but College football really has taken a backseat to the pros for me over the years. And I realized why the other day why, officiating in college football is the worst. Too many blown-calls. Most of these guys shouldn't even be allowed in the stadium. They are awful. I don't see the incompetence in the NFL. Now I get its not perfect either, but college football officials have just gotten worse. And college football use to be my fav. Now some games I have to turn off because its like the Refs choose a side in almost every game in college and decide they want to screw some team over. Just terrible crews in the game right now.

Surprised Gerry wasn't hit with a targeting penalty on Saturday

I did spend way too much on that link last night and check out some of their UO's fans comments. Generally, they knew football. Nice. They loved their program. Again, nice. They thought that Brock Huard was hard to listen to. Agreed.

But they just couldn't seem to give NU any respect. Comments like our stadium was a let down for being too plain. They did comment about how loud it was, but just at the end, not throughout the game. They gave props for the stadium's upgraded sound system. They complained a lot about the penalties as lite referenced. I'll agree on maybe two were questionable. However, it was a Pac12 crew so we played by the same rules. Nebraska fans were nice. Duh.

But the worst thing is that they were overlooking us. We weren't supposed to compete with them. They had better talent. Their coach was an idiot (paraphrase). They just couldn't believe that we could hang with them. No credit to our talent and skill level. I did hear that they thought that NU should just continue to run it up the gut because they couldn't stop it.

In the end, they sounded like a lot of us. Living in the past. They swore if it was one of their squads from their best period, 2009-2014, that they would have put the game away a long time ago. Well, if we can cherry pick years I'll take our best national championship caliber teams and see how this fantasy stuff really works.

Bottom line, Oregon fans are legit. I'd love to make the trip to Eugene for that one. I'm not sure how we'd fare with our new QB. Prokup looked pretty freakin' good for a freshman. By this time next year he will be difficult to stop.

If I remember correctly, Prokup is one of those bs "graduated you dont have my major for a masters I never plan on getting" transfers. So he is one and done. Could be wrong though.

If I was a Duck fan I would feel the same exact way. They were up 20-7...I would be pissed if I was a Duck fan today.

First of all Prokup is not a freshman. He is a 5th year senior transfer from Montana State. Second, Oregon fans do act like the new rich. Autzen Stadium has a reputation for not being very nice to visiting fans. The Pac 12 is full of arrogant fans and Oregon is right up there at the top. I did read in the Oregonian some nice comments from their fans about their trip to Lincoln. I have seen too much bullsh*t at Ducks-Husky games and experienced their cockiness on my numerous visits to Portland to believe it will be an enjoyable experience. The only time I have ever been hit at an away game was at a Husky Stadium where I've had season tickets for years with my brother a UW grad. When the Huskers were playing I was standing near the concessions with several friends and my brother, all Huskies, when a guy came up behind me and hit me in the back of the head. Then he showed his true character and ran though the crowd Like a little girl.

It was already pointed out that Prokup was a senior transfer. You said Husker, but I think meant Husky. If not, then some Husker fan popped you in the back of the head. I hope not!

Why didn't you chase him down and fight him...and then educate him about college football?

If I were a Duck fan I'd be pissed at HCMH. Being cute potentially cost them at worst overtime. Take the easy one pointers after the failed attempt.

As far as the officiating, I was worried about it going into the game knowing it was a Pac 12 crew. So they had crew who knew how they played.

Heck yeah...I would be pissed at him too. Like I said...I would be blaming the coach for the loss...not giving out HJ's to the Huskers.

Oregon defensive back hooked our receiver, that is most definitely pass interference. I don't recall if Oregon had time on the substitution penalty or not. I do know their receivers lined up beyond the ball on multiple downs and weren't called for it.

Nebraska has the win, Oregon has the loss and no matter how many tears they shed it'll remain like that. Forever.

I thought Oregon was incredibly lucky that Nebraska called such a stupid lateral inside the Ducks 20 yard line. The Huskers had just ran the ball down their throats for most of the drive, and Tommy struggles with those type of throws.

When you have Ozigbo or Armstrong going for 6 yards a pop, or Cethan Carter getting open every play, or Alonzo Moore, or Jordan Westerkamp, there is just no reason to try and hit Mikale Wilbon in the flat with a throw Tommy rarely completes.

Instead, that mistake gives Oregon the ball inside Nebraska territory.

If that play doesn't occur, Nebraska likely scores on 5 straight possessions and wins by 10 to 14 points.

No, maybe I wasn't clear. It was at Husky Stadium and the Huskers were in town. I think it was '91. The point I was making is that even though I was surrounded by Husky friends (I was in Husker gear) some loser UW fan came up from behind us and whacked me in the head. We all gave chase but he got away. I've been all over for Nebraska games and that is the one and only time I've ever been hit.

Anyway I will not expect to be treated well next year in Autzen. I know I am dating myself, but those of us who were at the games in Boulder after McCartney starting have some success remember the Buff fans could be pretty rough. I put the Oregon fans in the same category, the new rich.

Langsdorf needs to continue to improve as a play caller/OC.

You know corn as the saying goes shit happens. I think the bigger more important fact isn't that Tommy had a bad pass over the back shoulder of the running back or that Wilbon didn't go after the ball. It's that WE FOUGHT ON! We weren't going to be denied and the Blackshirts got the drive killing win! Remember last year and game after game watching the inevitable happen??? Watching the offense come to a screeching halt and the defense getting pushed down field late in games??? I for one am glad to see the team fight adversity and win!

Some penalties were a head scratcher, but I think we aren't as good in several areas as we used to be. Chip is missed more than many think.

The under thrown ball at the end really hurt & there is an example of 50/50 play that Nebraska wouldn't have gotten last season.

To me, Nebraska looks like a top 15-25 type of team. Congrats on the win and see everyone at the Zoo in '17.

When the camera panned out and showed your receiver downfield all I could think was "HOW IN THE F DID YOU LET HIM GET SO FAR BEHIND YOU"?

Glad it didn't cost us the game, we kind of skated on that one and were it not for that poorly thrown ball, I don't think to many people would be praising our pass D. Weird how an opinion on an entire game can hinge on one pass like that.

Exactly. The difference in way more games these days has become razor thin & that's a good thing for college football.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. Yeah, you and I are probably similar age. I'm right there with you. I don't remember anyone giving me a hard time. I used to wear my Husker gear and cruise Commerce Street in Dallas during Texas/OU weekend. It was a whole different beast back then. You could drink out in public. We'd be chanting "OU sucks! Texas gonna lose!" It was all in fun. Met some great OU fans that took one look at my sweatshirt and said they respected NU.

And we're not all angels. I remember Husker fans chanting Sal is dead. Of course, I never witnessed the urine bombs of Folsom Field. Just never had anyone assault me. Of course, there was that 2002 Broncos game where some drunk started a fight with me while in line for the balthroom at halftime. I was wearing my Nebraska hat! Had forgotten about that. LOL
