I really enjoy watching Georgia Tech's offense. I wish we still ran the option. I truly believe our success over the past 20 years would be greater had we stuck with our identify and continued to be an option based offense.
Had we stuck with the option would we have a conference title and a BCD bowl berth in the past 20 years? Say what you want but GA Tech has achieved those goals.
I wanted Paul Johnson over Bo back in the day and continue to feel that way today

Air Force is probably my favorite true option team to watch.

I thought the comments in last night's game about how Solich should still be the coach we're interesting. Said the offenses now resemble his vision 20 years ago.

Remember when Georgia Tech was playing in multiple BCS bowl games. Winning gets you into those games, games that Nebraska haven't played in since the 1990's

Well I would have liked seeing Nebraska run the GA Tech offense. In my opinion Nebraska would be consistently pulling one of the top 3 option qb's each year.

2 BCS games in 9 seasons. That makes up for the 2 losing seasons he's had and the one .500 season? OK-if you say so. Somehow, I don't think you'd be saying that for a coach that didn't run the option. Different standards solely for what kind of offense you run.

And winning 60% of the games just like Paul Johnson has won at GA Tech. Winning 60% is not up to our standards here-unless you run the option. This is what I can't stand about you option-obsessed people. You are so dishonest with your criticism of any coach who doesn't run the option-talking about winning percentage and losing seasons-but when it's for a coach who runs the option-you come up with every excuse in the book. The truth is, you don't care one bit about winning-you care about one thing and one thing only-running your "beautiful" option.

That's not true. I do think that at Nebraska Paul Johnson would probably be better than 60% . You must admit Nebraska from a football standpoint is greater than GA Tech. I would be just as critical of a losing coach who ran the option as what we've had the past 20 years. It's just a fact that in the 1990's we had an identity , maybe not straight option, but we got the top running qb's, consistently good rb's and damn good lineman. Now instead of the top 1,2,3 option qb's we are after the 15-20 range of passers. And where is the pipeline? What is our identity on offense now? What are our strength? QB? Line? RB?
I'm just saying.

Not to mention he sits right in some of the most fertile recruiting grounds imaginable.

I'm saying there's a reason why hardly anybody runs the option anymore. If it's so obviously successful-why the heck doesn't anybody run it? And of course our success in the 90s was all about the offense wasn't it? It had nothing to do with our coach. Just plug in that beautiful offense, and any coach will do, and magically success and national championships will come. GA Tech didn't hire Paul Johnson either because they thought the option was so great-they hired him because he was an already known name in the state from his time at Georgia Southern. .

I just want something that is physical, and can put up 40+ on the weaklings of the conference.

Tell us the championships we have won since going away from the option? You know with the offenses everybody else runs?

Oh, so that's it. I mean it's so obvious-we run the option, and magically the championships would have been there. How could TO have been so stupid not to know this and not hire a coach to run the option? It's really sad the number of people that actually seem to buy into this idea that there is some magical connection between Nebraska and the option.

Yep. GT has won so damn many NC's they had to buy a bigger trophy case.

It's 2017 The option is no longer NU's identity. Hasn't been since the Fighting Frankies. Wake up and deal with it.

IMO being physical should be their identity. The style of offense doesnt matter as much. You can win at the college level with nearly any style. But finese teams that don't play good d don't win titles for the most part.

I would have taken a coach with a strong running game and strong focus on defense.

Just got back from Tulsa vs. Navy. Navy threw four passes. But their option was unstoppable. Keep in mind it was TU but still was a lot of fun to watch.

Don't come around her with that type of talked. You will immediately be labeled as "option football is soooooooo beautiful and I dont care if we only win 60% of our games" guy
 
Georgia Tech, Air Force, and Navy's variations of the option offense are NOT the same as Osborne's. Similarities? Of course there are, but I doubt any of those coaches would come close to the success Osborne enjoyed. Osborne had a knack of keeping defenses back on their heels (basically more deception and strength).
Having said that, I think it will take an offense like Osborne's for NU to rise to national prominence once again. And YES, it will still work. I asked TO myself that very question and his answer was a resounding 'YES'. Scott Frost anyone?

You realize Frost doesn't run an offense that even remotely resembles what Osborne ran, right?

I just want our offensive linemen back on steroids like they were in the glory days. The new AD might be the perfect guy to giterdone.
