One piece of advice for Martinez

Keep it up and you Will be gone

Best advice for Martinez is to play with swag. With him, it is inevitable mistakes are going to happen, but at the end of the day he plays a ton better when he has that little edge to him. Talk some shit, mix it up and see where it goes.

you know he's just gonna milk it.. just like he's been doing for the past 3 years.

We are going to see a good year 4 defense.. offense? not so much. and who's fault is it for allowing this to occur?

Well his day is coming too.

What would recommend then ? Bringing back Jack Benny Riley?

Martinez help?

10 years ago a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.

Mistakes and turnovers happen when AM is trying to get too much out of a play. Forcing a ball into coverage, getting the ball punched struggling for added yards. He should realize that he now has a defense that can get him the ball back, something that was less likely in 2018&2019. He is really at his best when he lets the game come to him and uses his skill players to accomplish that. If the RB is being used effectively, the QB run game is also more effective. And this in turn sets up the pass game. This offense flows from the play provided by the running backs to the pass game, not the other way around.
Chunk plays come when you quit worrying about getting chunk plays.
One of the Supreme Court Justices once said he couldn't define porn, but he knew it when he saw it. In the same vein, I can't define exactly what makes a "good QB", but I know one when I see one. I like the way AM carries himself and how he represents the university. Beyond that the proof is in the pudding and right now, the pudding is not good.

Week 1, I think we’ll know what we have. It’s a long off season to get the team ready with one of the most experienced QBs we’ve ever had.
Most college teams deal with turnover and youth and lack of depth causing some issues. It’s how the game works and can’t always be the excuse. Some years hurt more than others.

If they come out flat and dull, then we’ll know what we’re in for.
For me, this about coaching at this point.
We also still have enough paper talent to trot out plenty of 4*s on offense, so development is what makes them successful.

2 things can be true at the same time. for instance:

Frost has failed miserably to surround AM with skill guys

--AND--

AM stinks and is incapable of covering up any of the warts Frost has left untreated to the extend that it leads to wins
Here's another fact:

You don't understand a fvckin thing about football.

So @Cornicator you are stating that with simply adding Maurice Washington this team would be winning a significantly greater number of games?

How does that not jive with what with @John_J_Rambo writes about Frost failing to surround AM with skill guys? Even if Washington was able to do the miniscule amount of off the field things Frost required of him and was still around, there is still a shortage of high level WRs and RBs on this squad with any sort of college experience.

Clearly Martinez isn't the type of QB that elevates the play of those around him. Which is how I would define "incapable of covering up the warts". Some QBs can do that, some cant. Some need to be surrounded by talent in order to look good.

As far as the stats go, with regards to interceptions, Martinez simply doesn't throw the ball downfield at the same rate as the other QBs you mentioned did. Frost has thrown a lot of screen and short yardage passes, especially the past 2 seasons. That alone should decrease the chances of interceptions, then consider the number of times that Martinez runs the ball per game, some of those are not designed runs, it is him taking off instead of throwing a ball. Again that should decrease the number of ints

Ha... Adrian Martinez has more completions of 20+ and 30+ yards than every QB on the list outside of Zac Taylor. Try again.
link?

even though it's been 2+ years of him starting, I'm a bit dubious of this claim.

Stats and game logs. Here you go:

Start studying
I'd study if provided the materials.

I click on 2008, for example, and there's no game logs. I suspect you've pulled this 'stat' directly from your anus. none of the game logs from 2013, for example, are even linked to working websites.

AM is completing 20+ yard passes at twice the rate Armstrong did? are you going by per year?

now I'm even more dubious of your claim.

I'm referring to career numbers, and they can be extrapolated by going game to game.

1. Zac Taylor
2. Adrian Martinez
3. Joey Ganz
4. Taylor Martinez
5. Tommy Armstrong

Now.. I haven't added up attempts of 20 yards or more. I would bet Tommy Armstrong is easily #1 in that category, by a wide margin.

Completions of 20 or 30 plus yards does not mean the pass traveled 20-30 yards. I can easily see Martinez with more 5 yard completions and 15 yards after the catch than the others.

kind of my thought, too.

PFF tabulates all these QB stats for air distance traveled, I just don't pay for their premium membership, so I don't have access to it.

needless to say, AM has ranked dead last in the B1G for 2 straight years in rating on passes traveling 20+ yards, as well as dead last in the B1G from a clean pocket in 2020, so I can't imagine those numbers are favorable.

however, from a raw total standpoint, I can see his total number of those completions being up there just due to volume.

Here is what I found, using my own parameters because my stat provider only provides pass plays 25+ yards and only goes back to 2009

2009 Zach Lee - 23 - total 23 - 12 games 1.91 per game
2010 Taylor Martinez - 14
2011 Taylor Martinez - 24
2012 Taylor Martinez - 36
2013 Taylor Martinez - 5 - total 79 - 44 games 1.79 per game
2013 Tommy Armstrong - 11
2014 Tommy Armstrong - 28
2015 Tommy Armstrong - 33
2016 Tommy Armstrong - 24 total 106 - 44 games 2.41 per game
2017 Tanner Lee - 29 - total 29 - 12 games 2.42
2018 Adrian Martinez - 23
2019 Adrian Martinez - 21
2020 Adrian Martinez - 8 total 52 - 28 games 1.85 per game

So I am going to call BS on the information provided, because I actually "studied"

Man, TMart had a real special Jr. year. Sr. year was what could have been. And yet he caught holy hell on this board on a daily basis, continuing a few years after he left.

Every Husker fan feels the same exact thing here..
I myself think it’s the QB’s Coach Verduzco making him worse..
Agree! I’d rather see Harry Potter leave before AM. Offensive Line Coaching and QB Coaching have both been the weakest links. If we’ve had quality coaching in those two areas, we’ve won at least a few more games. Pathetic!

Still waiting for the counter to my post about the actual numbers of pass plays greater than 25 yards.

You have to see what Smothers can do.. and warm up Haarberg too..

that's my 1a and 1b for this next season.. well if you want to start on a path to being productive without 'confidence' issues spreading abound on offense.

We already have 3 years of proof on what AM brings to the table.

I know, Frost will likely go with him, and nothings going to change on offense, and the kid will come back for a 5th year, and this will be the 5 year AM plan for trying to win at least .500
