Oliver Martin from Iowa is in the transfer portal now too.

what’s the “LOL” for? Read farther down instead of just the first post. It was pointed out that he didn’t accomplish anything at Iowa YET and we all agreed it wasn’t a blow. Not this season anyways for Iowa.

But anytime a team loses a 4 star WR, it’s a blow. He could have helped Iowa next year after you guys lose your top 2 WRs. He was a Top 250 4 star WR via Rivals and a Top 100 (Top 47) 4 star WR via 24/7. He’s got talent and even Iowa’s WR coach said this much. He could very well kill still, I just hate seeing a WR like him bouncing around between teams like this. Stay put, keep working and eventually it will pay off.

Wasn't McQuity a for star receiver?? That was a major blow?? Lol

Martin has some immaturity and accountability issues overcome. From that standpoint, Iowa can definitely walk away without much concern.

However, now that the 2020 season has been canceled, the loss of Martin is significant to future depth chart. Brandon Smith and Smith-Marsette are both 3rd to 5th round draft grades. B. Smith might actually test off the charts at the combine. That means both those dudes have played their last snaps at Iowa. If football is played in the Spring, they both will sit out. Considering they're both on target to graduate this Dec or in the Spring, there is no logical reason for them to return with NFL jobs waiting.

Iowa will be forced to start Petras in 2021 without two experienced and talented receivers. Alaric Jackson will be gone to the NFL as well.

Martin would've had a great chance to become a focal point in the 2021 offense. His departure will be felt next season.

What's odd about him coming to Nebraska is the Huskers WR depth chart which sucked in 18 and 19, exploded in numbers for 20 and 21. Martin has more game experience than a lot of those dudes, but you have to wonder if he's willing to accept competition. I'm skeptical.
Thanks for your input. The best commentary on this subject.

McQuitty was a regular 4 star (not in the Top 100 or Top 250 range) via Rivals and McQuitty was a 3 star via 24/7. There is a huge difference between a regular 4 star vs a Top 100 or Top 250 4 star. Now don’t mistake it, McQuitty had potential coming in and injuries derailed him and he never recovered fully.

Oliver Martin is a Top 100 (Top 47) via 24/7 and a Top 250 4 star via Rivals. Mike Farrell said it best with Martin....

FARRELL'S TAKE
"Martin is an interesting prospect because he was a terrific route runner and set up defenders well out of high school and had adequate speed. This would be stop No. 3 for him which is puzzling and there are question marks but his ability is there and then opportunity at Nebraska is a really good one. They need impact wide receivers and he can play right away..” National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell

Impact Rating: 7.4 out of 10

Top that off, McQuitty didn’t test out anywhere close to Martins scores. He had a 133 Sparq rating. Again, those two aren’t even in the same galaxy for comparisons. You are talking a Top 100 4 star vs a regular 4 star that barely got a 4 star rating and was ranked a 3 star via 24/7.

..Oliver Martins TESTING RESULTS

    • 40-Yard Dash
      • 4.57

    • 20-Yard Shuttle
      • 4.15

    • Vertical Jump
      • 41.6

    • Power Throw
      • 41.0

    • SPARQ Rating
      • 133.02

You're right about the differences in athleticism - Martin's SPARQ (Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction and Quickness) score was an elite 133.02 while McQuitty's was just 72.66.

For comparison, Zavier Betts scored a 130.71 and Tyjon Lindsey a 129.33.

For further comparison, a few of the WRs drafted in last year's NFL Draft looked like this:

-Jerry Jeudy: 104.88
-Jalen Reagor: 100.35
-CeeDee Lamb: 90.09
-Levishka Shenault: 88.86

What does that mean about Martin's potential production? Absolutely nothing, but it's clear he's a superior athlete even when compared to most other superior athletes.

you’d have to be an absolute moron if you are serious. You guys don’t have a single WR that would crack Bamas or Clemsons Two deep at WR. Not one WR. I’ll give you this, for the style of offense Iowa’s runs, Iowa is/WAS set at WR for this season.

You guys have a top loaded WR roster. Meaning you have 4 solid to good WRs. But that’s it....end of story. With this season canceled, it’s very likely your top 2 WRs will forgo playing in the winter or next spring/summer for the NFL (same with A Jackson on the Oline). Then Iowa is left with just two solid/young WRs and a bunch of question marks. Hence the reason why i said losing Oliver Martin stings more then what you may want to admit.

not to nitpick but Zavier Betts score was 130.71 at The Openings Finals. But still, Oliver Martin even had/has better testing numbers then Betts by a small margin. So I agree with your post.
