Ohio State - Indiana (and others)

We better be scouting what Indiana is doing. They are throwing quick and moving the ball.

yeah we definitely will need that game plan...we arent going to be able to run much vs that front 7

That's what I've been impressed with. Lots of quick throws. They don't have enough time to get pressure on him.

I cant stand that indiana thinks you can call run plays that take eight seconds to develop against this defense. Its so damn frustrating.

Someone call Papa John's

OSU 125 rushing yards
Indian 16 rushing yards

I have a feeling OSU is going to take over this game shortly

Anyone who was fearful of that Minny game, fear nothing. I said it from the get go that will be a cake walk of a game as along as we are somewhat healthy. Minnys Oline is awful and so is Rhoda.

I desperately want to agree with you, but I try really hard to not make harsh judgements after week 1. But they do look bad.

At the half, tOSU corners asked authorities to look into child abuse by the Indiana wide receivers.

ROW THE BOAT, row the boat!!!!!!!!!
Never mind..........

The last Indiana TD makes me really excited for our really tall TEs in the future.

Is OSU's Dline that good or is IU's Oline that bad? Gotta give Legow credit. He's had no time to throw all night and has zero running game.

Well, if our lines are a notch above Indy's lines, and if Lee is as good as their QB, we ought to be in the game.

Indiana played their bowl game tonight. They had the entire off-season to prepare and they played admirably.

Takeaways:
Indiana is definitely talented at WR. The receiving corps reminded me at times of our last ditch drive against A&M years ago; Swift/Peterson. Indiana will be tough on offense, because of this.

OSU continues to be slow on offense. They might get shut down at first against low to mid teams, but they'll eventually get theirs. The monkey might still be on their back if they had played a high caliber team tonight. This will likely change... teams normally improve over the course.

I couldn't tell what was happening between OSU and IU WR and DB matchup sometimes. Were OSUs DBs rusty/tired? We're Indiana's receivers just playing beyond tonight?

Good showing for the B10 either way. Fully enjoyed it!

30 pass attempts for 304 yards. 51 rushes for 294 29 of those rushes from a backup freshman. Did you watch the game?
I'm guessing that quote was from the first half when OSU was struggling to find a rythem on offense. I was honestly wondering the same thing (as were quite a few on the Buckeye board).

Fair enough. Thank you for your reply. Good luck in your game. I respect the Huskers.

The receivers were only NFL open, not college open. They had to make play after play to make those catches and the qb was putting it exactly at the right place at the right time for most of the night. Their size on the outside against the smaller DBs helped.

Indiana threw 65 times and scored 21 points. It felt like the receivers dominated but ultimately they got blown out at home.

Full disclosure- I'm an OSU fan so while I may have paid more attention to certain things than a non-fan, I also come with a bias..A lot of things occurred in the OSU game to explain the tale of two halfs.

Certainly the passing game in the first half by IU was outstanding. The taller bigger receivers had an advantage on some of the jump balls. If you look at some of the catches with tight coverage there were some incredible efforts that while highlight worthy, were unlikely to be duplicated over and over with consistency. The OSU DBs had three new starters and they played like it in the first half, but adjustments and improved performance in the second half showed the potential. While there were a lot of complete passes, none broke free for big yardage or a long score which is a testament to the Buckeye speed on defense.

Offensively, Barrett is not a classic drop back QB and if they continue to try to make him one it's a mistake. Since he was a freshman, Barrett is a very good passer but he needs to mix it with his run game. I compare it to a boxer who needs to get hit a few times to get going. Barrett seems to get better when he's had a bit of contact. He just shouldn't be carrying the ball 20+ times which he tended to do last season. He is also a rhythm QB so he needs to be able to be given the chance to get into rhythm.

This was Indiana's Championship Game. They had ESPN Gameday there, they had a new coach and were going against their old coach. This was supposed to be their coming out party. This was the game they prepared all off season to give their best shot, and they did, While it was important for OSU, a week and a half later they have Oklahoma at home. If the Buckeye coaching staff was implementing any special game plan or practices for an early game during the Spring, Summer, and Fall Camps, it's likely they were preparing for the Sooners, not the Hoosiers.

In some ways it ended up being a great situation for the OSU coaches. A good win where they Saw how the team responded under duress. It was against a decent team and was able to see where some weaknesses were, and can be addressed, that wouldn't have shown up against a lesser non-conference foe. Now they have nine days to work on it.

They were very strong in the second half. And in a close game on the road, they did exactly what real good teams do, dominate the last 30 minutes.

I never get too excited about the first week of games. Teams look completely different by the middle of the season.

I liked your post because it contained solid, objective analysis.

And because you refrained from using the small "t". Well done.

I'm excited at the start of the year for some teams. I agree with you teams change as the season flows, but that is a part of why we love the game!
