Legitimate question as I've never played on the line or been a coach. You see this reference to a minimum height for an OT many times but I've never seen an explanation for this philosophy amongst most coaches. It makes perfect sense to me that you want tall DLs, especially at DE, to bat down passes and have the accompanying wingspan to increase their ability to reach out and grab a runner heading to the outside, but I've never understood the correlation for an OT. It has always seemed to me that as long as they have the athleticism/mobility to get outside on the DE's end rush and stop that while being physically able to withstand a straight on assault that their height is somewhat irrelevant. In fact, I would think that the taller they are the more susceptible they are to a bull rush. TIA.
